Upper Stoney Lake I

Today I am sitting the last day of Art on Kent before it closes its doors for the last time.

While sitting the gallery I worked on a drawing that I had started a while ago (see post on 24 August 2015).

I was at Quarry Bay Beach on Stoney Lake and after a nice swim and lunch I relaxed and did a couple of sketches of the nearby islands.

I started with the land in the background by putting in the distant trees with vertical strokes adding in the closer trees with more definition and then putting in the rocks beneath the rocks.














Working on both sides of the drawing I started by putting in the rocks and adding the shadows.

Next I added all the pine and cedar trees onto the islands and then I put grasses and growies at the base of the trees and in various place in among the rocks.

Lastly I added the water ripples and some the reflections from the pine and cedar trees.

This original 4-1/2" x 9” pen and ink drawing when matted and shrink wrapped will be available for $40.00.

My New Toy

Today I sat at Art on Kent in Lindsay, Ontario.















The Gallery will remain open until 08 July 2017 at the end of the "What's Your Canada?" exhibit ends.















When I returned home I found this in the driveway on the trailer waiting for me to go for a test drive.



















As much as I wanted to drive it today, I had brought supper home and after spending a busy day at the gallery all I wanted to do was relax with my leg up.















I will be happy when I can walk normally without the rollator walker and not get tired so quickly.















But tomorrow is another day and I will be driving around the property in my new toy.

Ocean View I

Today I sat the exhibit at Art on Kent in Lindsay, Ontario.

While I was there I worked on this drawing that I had started a number of years ago while vacationing in Veradero, Cuba (see post on 18 December 2013).

First I started by putting in the horizon line in the distance and added some white caps in the ocean.

Next I worked on the palm trees starting with the coconuts and then adding the fronds and lastly the tree trunks.

To finish the foreground, I joined the growies together in front of the palm trees.

I worked on the clouds next, starting with the large fluffy clouds that were lower in the sky and then the smaller, higher ones in the top of the sky.

Art on Kent to Close

I just received a notice that Art on Kent in Lindsay, Ontario will close its doors when the "What's your Canada Show?" ends on 08 July 2017.

As I have found with most cooperatives, there are members who feel that they are entitled to reap the benefits of having a Gallery in which to exhibit their art and to attend classes and workshops; these same "members" are unwilling to do their fair share of the work, which is required as a member of the cooperative.

This year it became mandatory for all members to be on a committee and do their fair share to keep the Gallery. In this case, over two thirds of the members chose not to renew their membership because they were unwilling to do their fair share of the work.

The end result is the Gallery will close on 08 July 2017.

Affordableism

Today is the last day of the Affordableism at Art on Kent for 2016 and it will re-open on 05 January 2017 and continue through to 14 January 2017.
















I tried to get a good photograph of the window display from the street, but there was too much glare and reflection.

So I went into the foyer and took a photograph through the side window which had a little less glare. Even with that the photographs do not do justice to the window display.

As the name of the show implies the paintings are priced to be affordable and the range starts at $10.00 and goes up to the most expensive are $300.00.

Upstairs was a treasure trove of gifts for every occasion.

There was original framed art from 4" x 4" up to *24" x 30" in acrylic, charcoal, conte, graphite pencil, pastel, pen & ink, Prisma pencil, watercolour and mixed media in a wide variety of subject matter which would please almost anyone.

There was a wide variety of sculptures in wood, papier-mâché, metal and clay.

Beautiful handcrafted dolls in luxurious costumes and bold coloured wall hangings.

Many one of a kind pieces of jewellery could be found scattered throughout the Gallery.

There were necklaces with matching earrings in semi precious stones, boxed as a set or as individual pieces; carved leather earrings, brooches, bracelets and hair clips of leaves, flowers and animals.

And to hold the jewellery there were stained trinket boxes in glowing colours.

I chose a bracelet of fresh water pearls for a family member as a Christmas gift.

There was a wall of Christmas wreaths in traditional cedar decorated with holly and bows, then others of grapevine adorned with ribbons, bows, flowers and leaves each with its own distinctive flavour and some made of braided cloth and others of cut felt.

Interspersed between the wreaths were many different ornaments in hand blown glass, stained glass, Styrofoam covered with sequins, beads and metallic ribbon, all hanging suspended by ribbons, leather cords or chains. 

I spent some time looking at the many of the one of a kind pieces of hand formed pottery bowls, cups, trays and figurines.

On the whole it is an exceptional show and if you are unable to make it out to see it today, I hope you will find the time in the New Year when the Gallery reopens on 05 January 2017.

Poster for Affordableism

This is the poster for the "Affordableism" exhibit at Art on Kent which features one piece of my art.

The show begins on 24 November and runs through to 17 December 2016, then closes for Christmas and New Year's holiday and reopens from 05-14 January 2017.

The Opening Reception is on 26 November 2016 from 1-3p.m.

Hopefully some of you will be able to come out and view the exhibit.

Feast for the Eyes

Today I was sitting at Art on Kent in Lindsay, Ontario for the last day of the "Feast for the Eyes" show.














I was surprised that there wasn't a larger number of paintings in the exhibit and only two photographs.










But with the wide variety of styles and media it created a very interesting display.














As usual the paintings were beautifully presented to the public by the show hanging committee.














It was also a very busy day at the Gallery with many people coming in to see the show as well as a couple of artists bringing in their art work for the next show called "Affordableism".















The new show starts on 24 Nov and runs through to 17 Dec 16 when the Gallery closed for the Christmas season and reopens in the New Year on 05 January and runs through until 14 Jan 17.














If you would like to meet some of the artists, the opening reception is on 26 Nov 16 from 1-3p.m. and I hope to see some of you there.

Wall of Small

Today is the opening reception for the Wall of Small and the new exhibit "Feast for the Eyes" at Art on Kent.











The Wall of Small consists of thirty five 12" x 12" (30.5 x 30.5cm) spaces on the wall to the left of the entrance door and across from the front desk.









Artists were given the chance to lease from 1-5 spaces on the Wall from 27 Oct 16 - 29 Apr 17 and may change their paintings as often as they wish during that time period.








Currently there are only five available spaces remaining, which I am sure will be leased before long.









If you have a chance, please come out and enjoy the new exhibits.

Feast for the Eyes Poster

This is the poster for the "Feast for the Eyes" exhibit at Art on Kent which features my art and photography.

The new show will run from 27 October to 19 November with the opening reception on 29 October from 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.

Hopefully some of you will be able to come out and view the exhibit.

The Future is Now

Today I was sitting at Art on Kent for the last day of "The Future is Now" exhibition.











I had seven paintings in this show representing toys, agriculture, lakes and transportation.













It was a fairly busy day today with a large number of people coming in to see the exhibit before it is gone. So busy in fact, that I didn't have time to work on a painting as I normally would.













I decided to leave the three paintings with rubber duck in them for the "Wall of Small".  I also brought in two painting for the next show "Feast for the Eyes".

Mixed Masters

Today I was at Art on Kent for the last day of the Mixed Masters exhibit.










There were many interesting pieces hanging on the walls in a wide variety of media.

Some of the acrylic had various metallic pigments and textured gels used in them.














Others were collages with cut outs from books and magazine pasted onto a background and painted.

Some were made of layers of cut paper and put into shadow box frames giving them a three dimensional affect.














I also took in my paintings for the upcoming show called "The Future is Now" which is Part II of a show held in February this year called "Blast from the Past".

The new show will feature the artists’ interpretations of items and images that had been displayed from the Olde Gaol Museum.














The opening reception for the new show is on 01 October 2016 from 1:00p.m. - 3:00p.m. and the exhibit will continue until 22 October 2016.

When I returned home it was to find that Ron had been very busy working on the new door he was putting into the living room.














He had taken out the support beams which has been on either side of the smaller door and replaced them onto either side of the new doors.

While the work on the door isn't finished yet and my living room looks like a battle zone I know that it won't be long before everything is finished and I will be able to enjoy the magnificent view from the top of my hill.

Transportation Show at Art on Kent

Today I did a double shift at Art on Kent for the final day of the Transportation show.

It is a good thing that there is an air conditioner at the Gallery otherwise with the heat 84F (28.9C) and the humidity 93F (33.9C) it would have been unbearable.

I was surprised to see that in the back room one of my paintings had its own wall.

In the main Gallery area five of my paintings were placed in a grouping together by themselves on another wall which was even more surprising.













My final painting with the Transportation theme was in the center of the middle Gallery wall in between two large photographs of antique cars.














The heat didn't keep people from coming in to view the exhibit and even though I had taken out pieces to paint while at the Gallery I didn't have any time to work on them.

All Members' Show at Art on Kent

There was a lovely display of artwork by the members of the Kawartha Arts Network held Art on Kent for the month of June.












There is something for everyone on display from sculptures, photography and paintings in every media and a wide variety of subject matter.

Petals Art Show at Art on Kent

Today I sat the morning shift for the Petals exhibition at Art on Kent in Lindsay, Ontario.

Normally, I sit for the last shift on Saturday on the closing day of the show; but tomorrow we are going to Toronto and taking Ron's mother out for supper for mothers' day.

I had three paintings in this show which features many lovely paintings and photographs of a wide variety of flowers, weeds and gardens.

If you have the opportunity, please drop by the show before it closes tomorrow at 3:00p.m.














It is well worth the drive to Lindsay.

Affordableism Art Show

Today I am sitting at Art on Kent in Lindsay and it is the last day of the Christmas show called 'Affordableism'.

This time for the show they placed all the paintings submitted by each artist together in a grouping on the wall so the public could view the style of the artist.














It was a fairly busy day with a number of people coming in to see the art exhibition as well as students bringing in their art pieces for the new show coming in which is for the best of high school art.

I had planned on doing a lot more work on this painting that I had started last year (see posts on 29 August and 22 October 2015), but all I managed to do was mask out the boats with a liquid masking fluid.













I will post this painting at a later date once the background is completed.

Transitions show at Art on Kent

Today I am sitting the show all day at Art on Kent.

It should be a fairly busy day with taking in paintings for the upcoming Christmas Show called Affordibleism where all paintings are $400.00 and under.

Also the city of Lindsay is having their Yellow Bag Sale this weekend and everyone who comes into the Gallery gets a yellow bag for their purchases.

The only unfortunate part of the whole thing was that I has to wear a day glow, neon yellow scarf and yellow is just not my colour in any way, shape or form.











The day was very busy with a number of visitors coming in to see the exhibition as well as artists bringing in new artwork for the next show.











I didn't get very much time to paint, although I did work on two paintings and I should have them completed in the next couple of days.














But at the end of the day there were only eight of the yellow bags left to give away, so the day was productive.
