Hidden Beauty

It is another wet, cool, and overcast day here at the CoCo View Resort but I still managed to get another three dives in today. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

I thought it fitting to end the 30 day painting challenge with another view of the old wagon wheels that are behind the barn.

This is in the opposite direction than the first one Days Gone By (see my post on 01 November 2011). I have sketches of more of the old wagon wheels and the framework from some of the old carts that I hope to turn into paintings for next year.

This is an original 4" x 6” watercolour and when framed will be available for $95.00.

Fisherman 1

Today I was greeted with another grey day and rain. But I had no intention of letting that stop me from getting four dives in today; and using my new underwater digital camera.

The nice thing about being in "my" beach house here at the CoCo View Resort is that some things don't change.

The little grey heron was sitting on this rock in the tide pool out in front of my screened in porch. He reminded me so much of the Great Blue Herons we have back in Canada, that you see waiting patiently for unwary prey to come close and then his meal is served.

This original 4-3/4" x 5” pen and ink drawing once I frame it will be available for $125.00.

Now I had better head down to the docks or I will miss my first two dives of the day.

Thawing 1

It was an interesting trip getting to Roatan today. We were supposed to have arrived at 11:45am. Well that didn't happen. The weather was so severe that they closed the airport in Roatan and we continued on to Belize to drop off the other passengers.

After a two hour wait we were able to re board the plane and head back to Roatan. There was a lot of turbulence due to the storm and there were still very strong winds to contend with on our approach to the landing strip.

The plane came in hard and fast, the landing was the roughest one I had ever experienced. But we landed safely, although many were unsettled by getting thrown about, we were all in one piece.

Needless to say, by the time we finally got our baggage together and to the CoCo View Resort and had supper it was too late to dive and the weather had once again closed in around us. After everything that had happened no one was even in the mood for a night dive.

I finished this small original 5-1/2" x 5-1/2” pen and ink drawing which when I bring it back home and frame it up will be available for $145.00.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and enjoy the artwork. I hope you will return often.

Coconut Tree 1

It is getting closer to the time I can head south and go diving.

As you can see I have the warm beaches and the salt water on my mind.

While the cold winds blow here I will just keep on thinking about the warm breezes and the coconut trees.

I can see I am going to have to remember to erase my reference notes on my sketches before I take photographs of them and I have removed them.

This original 6" x 6-1/2” pen and ink picture when framed will be available for $145.00.

Duet

We still haven't had much snow and the grass is still green which is very unusual for this time of the year, although we have had a green Christmas on occasion.

Today I decided that a winter scene would be nice.

I washed in Antwerp blue for the sky and added a touch of alizarin crimson to the blue and added a little colour to the snowy hill.

I was just playing with alizarin crimson, raw sienna, burnt sienna and Antwerp blue for the background trees.

Lastly I painted in a ski trail and a couple of skiers.

This is an original 9" x 12” framed watercolour painting for $180.00 and can be seen at KAGS during their Winter Celebration Show from 04 December 11 - 12 January 12.

Peaceful Morning

This painting was worked from a number of sketches I made of a small inlet on Lower Buckhorn Lake in the early morning.

I liked the trail of water lilies that were close to the shore and the lovely white blooms which were touched with the pink from the morning light.

Thank you to Mr. Peter St. John of Brampton, Ontario on his purchase of this original 11" x 15" framed watercolour painting as well as two smaller original 3" x 5" framed watercolour paintings Evening Calm and Evening Idyll.

Horse Sketches XV and XVI

While I was out today I stopped on the shoulder of the road by one of the farms with horses.

There were eight mares with foals and I made quick sketches of a number of them as they grazed in the field.

Horse Sketches XV

Some of the sketches I will tighten up and may use in a couple of paintings of mares and foals at a later date.

These are two that I had the time to ink up. I will post some of the others when they are ready.

Horse Sketches XVI

The pictures shown here are original pen and ink drawings and are available matted and shrink wrapped for $25.00 each.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and look at the artwork.

ACEO - More Skies

With living on top of a hill I have an unobstructed view of the sky.

I am fascinated by the variety in colour changes throughout the day as the sun rises with the soft pinks, mauves and golds. Then transforming through the wide ranges of blue during the day.

Quiet Morning 1

Then at the end of the day the brilliant glowing colours of the sunset, no two of them are ever alike.

Some of the colours are so unbelievable that if I ever painted them with the fluorescent colours I have seen on occasion, people would start to wonder what kind of non-prescription drugs I was taking.

Quiet 1

If you would like more information about ACEO please go to my post on 11 March 2010.

The ACEO shown here are all original watercolour paintings using Artist quality Windsor & Newton paint on either 140lb. or 300lb. Arches 100% rag, acid free watercolour paper. They are priced at $20.00 each and sold unframed.

Forest Reflections 1

This is another scene I came across while hiking in the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area and Campground in Douro-Dummer Township last winter.

I am always pleased when I come across such a lovely view which is totally unexpected; like this brook which hadn't frozen over and the trees where reflected in the calm water.

This original 5-1/2" x 7-1/2” pen and ink picture when framed will be available for $145.00.

Inviting Trail I

This is a small 2-3/4" x 3” original pen and ink picture that when framed will be available for $65.00.

It is one of the many hiking trails in the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area and Campground in Douro-Dummer Township at 289 Caves Road.

While the park is closed for the season now many people will park in the gatehouse parking lot and go spelunking (explore the caves), hike on the trails and when we have more snow on the ground go cross country skiing.

Thank you for coming to look at my artwork.

Birches in Winter

These were a stand of birches that I used to have in one of my back fields on the edge of the Snelgrove Brook. All that remains of them now are three stumps courtesy of one of the wetland residents a beaver.

At least I have photographs of how beautiful they were as well as a number of sketches and can always do another painting from my reference materials.

Thank you to new collector Ms. Linda Johnson of Wasaga Beach, Ontario on her selection of this original 8" x 10" framed watercolour painting for her art collection.

Down the Beach 1

Yesterday we had our first light dusting of snow, so it won't be long before I will have snow to shovel off the walkway and have the driveway ploughed. But, I have the snow tires on my Jimmy so I am prepared to go driving in winter weather.

I am looking forward to heading to the Caribbean to go diving and I decided to ink in one of my sketches from when we were in Cayo Coco, Cuba.

I forgot to erase my written notes for a larger painting before I took the photograph. They have been removed now.

Once I frame this original 6-1/2" x 8-1/2” pen and ink picture it will be available for $165.00.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my artwork and I hope you will return often.

Autumn Pathway

I will sometime go along when my husband, daughter and her husband go and play golf.

I usually take my camera and sketch book along as there are so many interesting things to draw and later make into paintings.

This is one of the cart pathways at Six Foot Bay Resort and Golf Club towards the end of October just before they shut down for the season.

Thank you to returning collector Ms. Rosalind Van Bemmel of Stouffville, Ontario on her purchase of this original 6" x 8” framed watercolour painting.

Magic Evening

There was a lovely sunset last night with soft glowing colours reflecting back on the calm water.

With the mild temperatures we have had here the lakes haven't even started to freeze up.

There are many gulls still here on the lake that haven't headed further south where the water doesn't freeze over completely in the winter.

This is an original 5-1/2" x 7-1/2” framed watercolour and is available for $125.00.

Bright Day 1

While over visiting with Heather today we spent some time in her sun room which overlooks the lake.

I did this sketch of the property a couple of houses down from her place and inked it in. I may do a painting from this sketch sometime next year.

This is an original 4" x 6-3/4” framed pen and ink drawing and is available for $125.00.

Fence Posts

This is an original 6" x 8” framed watercolour available for $145.00.

A lot of times while driving through some of the back country roads I will find the opening to fields that are either not used or have a crop on them each year. The gate which once stood at the opening is long gone to the ravages of time and the only thing that remains are the weather bleached uprights.

Explosion

Today I was in the mood to splash colour around and worked on a number of interesting backgrounds.

This one reminded me of fireworks exploding. It seems on most Victoria Day holidays we almost always end up having rain. So I wanted to show the multi-coloured downpour of rain to go with the fireworks.

This is an original 4" x 9-1/4” framed watercolour available for $165.00.

Leaves in Winter

It is cooler here today although there is no snow in the forecast.

But I know it won't be long before the white stuff is on the ground to stay until spring.

This original 6" x 8” framed watercolour is now in the collection of Chris Stubbs, thank you for purchasing this painting.

Swamp King 1

It was suggested yesterday that the Outdoor Painters' Group apply to have a show in Algonquin Park.

I thought it fitting to do a sketch and ink it up from Algonquin Park with a moose in it. I may do this as a larger painting next year.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and look at the artwork. I hope you will return often.

OSWOA - Evening Forest 5 and 6

So far we are continuing to have fairly mild weather for this time of the year and rain instead of snow.

Most of the colour is gone now with mainly the Tamaracks still holding their beautiful gold tones which contrast strikingly against their evergreen cousins.

There are still a few maple and oak trees valiantly hanging onto their leaves, but with the winds they will soon be gone.

Evening Forest 5

If you would like more information about OSWOA please go to my post on 12 March 2010.

The OSWOA shown here are all original watercolour paintings using Artist quality Windsor & Newton paint on 140lb. Arches 100% rag, acid free watercolour paper. They are priced at $40.00 each and sold unframed.

ACEO - Pine Boughs 3-5

This morning while doing the barn chores I was treated to the sound of rifle fire towards the back of my property.

I took a walk through the fields to see if they were on my property and hunting illegally.

As it turned out one was on my neighbour's property; who also doesn't allow hunting on her property. I let her know and she called the M.N.R.

Pine Boughs 3

Another volley of six to eight rifle shots was heard shortly coming from the forest after the one hunter was spotted in the cleared field.

The nice thing about the morning was that I was close to the remaining stately pine at the back of the property which was the inspiration for the three ACEO shown here.

Pine Boughs 4

If you would like more information about ACEO please go to my post on 11 March 2010.

Quiet Time 1

Today I was painting with the Buckhorn Tuesday Painting Group. At lunchtime I decided to go to Mainstreet Landing one of the local restaurants that is on the water.

The lake was calm and peaceful with none of the boat traffic that is there during the summer when the locks are open. While waiting for my meal I did this sketch.

Back at class I finished inking in the sketch. Later I may do a watercolour painting of the same scene.

This is an original 3-1/4" x 8-1/2” framed pen and ink and is available for $125.00.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and enjoy the artwork.

Weeds

In the many sheltered areas around my barns the weeds are able to find a foothold.

This is a scene I often see in winter; the dried stalks of the weeds covered with the freshly fallen snow highlighted against the barn board.

Thank you to Mrs. Mary Smith of Lakefield, Ontario on her selection of this original 2" x 4” framed watercolour painting for her art collection.

Pansies

This is a small 2" x 4” original, framed watercolour and is available for $45.00.

Pansies always seem to be such a bright, happy flower. This is one of a number of small floral paintings I am working on currently.

Now it is time for me to go to the Annual General Meeting for the Kawartha Artists’ Gallery.

Summer Evening

This one of the local farms you could see almost anywhere on a summer afternoon where the days are hot, humid and hazy.

Often the storm clouds build in the sky and you can hear the sound of thunder. Sometimes the clouds pass without sending the rain down on the dry land which, when the hay is drying on the ground is a blessing. Other times the skies darken and the rain pours down and is accompanied by the lightning.

This is an original 6-1/2" x 10-1/2" framed watercolour is available for $180.00.

We have already had a few hard frosts in the morning and it won't be long before there is snow on the ground.

When I go for a walk through the fields this is a scene I often see along the fence lines.

This is an original 6-1/2" x 13-1/2” framed watercolour available for $210.00.

Days Gone By

Hopefully I won't have any more problems with my computer, the software or my camera.

The weather continues to get colder and as I went for a walk through the back fields I saw this scene as I was walking past the barn and decided it would be a good way to start another 30 day art challenge.

I will continue to post the painting I finish each day during the course of the month. I hope you will return often to see the postings.

This is an original 5" x 7” framed watercolour available for $135.00.
