Sunset Island I and II - Two Works in Progress

Today I thought I would start work on a drawing for a class I am supposed to teach at the end of the month.

I thought something fairly simple in a landscape would be for the best.

Since windblown white pines on the islands in many of our local lakes are fairly common, it seemed a good place to start.

I started with the central pine tree and placed it on a rocky island and then added a few smaller trees on the island and a couple of dead trees.

I added an island on each side near the horizon line in the background and put reflections into the water beneath all of them.

I thought a second sketch would be a benefit, if I put in a few less trees on the island and let each student decide which image they felt more comfortable painting.

Once again I started with the main pine tree and then placed it on a rocky island and then added a few dead trees and smaller trees.

I added islands into the background and placed reflections into the water.

I will post drawings from each of these sketches at a later time.
