2019 Canadian International Auto Show

Christine had gotten Ron a pair of tickets as his birthday gift to the 2019 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, being held in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and we are going down to spend the day enjoying the exhibits.

We were fortunate that with it being the Flag Day long holiday weekend most of the traffic was heading out of the city.

We arrived just as the doors to the exhibit were opening and it didn't take long to enter the show and get started looking at the exhibits in the South Building Lobby - Level 600 most of which were retail vendors.

From there we went to the displays in the Alley - Level 700 where I thoroughly enjoyed the Art and the Automobile Display.

From there we proceeded to the Main Floor - Level 800 our first stop were the Army vehicles in the Military Zone. Some of them are huge monsters and they had a number of antique Military vehicles as well.

We continued through the displays on this floor and saw a number of imports including Alfa Romero, BMW/Mini, Jaguar/Land Rover and Porche.

From there we went into the North Building Main Floor - Level 300 and started with the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Canada display to see the new Jeeps which were on display.

We continued on this level going over to see the new Nissans. I liked the look of the Leaf, but it is not practical and definitely wouldn't survive on my unpaved country roads.

But, I enjoyed seeing the Altimate with its tracks in place of tires, which would be fabulous to use on the farm in the winter going up and down the many snow covered hills on the property.

By this time we had been at the show for five hours and it was time to have lunch, so we headed to Lobby - Level 2 for the Food Concessions.

After lunch we headed to the final floor which was Auto Exotica - Level 100, which had so many things that I wanted to see starting with the Devel Sixteen. I think we should have started here and worked our way in the opposite direction.

After we went through the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame, we went to the Legendary Motorcar Company and then the Grand Touring Automobiles.

Next we went to Autostrada and enjoyed the many vehicles, followed by the McLaren, PFAFF and Lotus displays.

Lastly, we went and looked at my personal favourite the Lamborghini.

While the metallic lilac colour would not have been my colour of choice, it is only $680,380.00 plus taxes; and Ron decided he wasn't going to get it for me as a birthday gift.

It was time to head home and fortunately we weren't parked very far away.

Douro-Dummer Automotive Flea Market and Car Show

Today is the first day of the Douro-Dummer Automotive Flea Market and Car Show, held at the Douro Community Centre and Arena, 2893 Highway 28 and County Road 4, Douro, Ontario.















Instead of being in the Harvest Room as we were for the spring show we were on the pad in the arena.















The people running the show made sure that my space was directly under one of the arena lights so that I would be able to paint as I usually do during an art show.















Cindy due to family commitments was unable to attend this show, but Diane Collins was here for the first time.















I am hoping the high temperatures, 86F (30C) and humidity making it feel like 91F (33C) do not keep the people and the antique cars from coming to the show.















Later I will go out and take photographs of the antique cars as well as many of the flea market items that will be on display.















The show runs today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and if you get the chance, please come out and enjoy the antique cars, the artwork, the crafts and if you need parts to fix your own antique car you may find what you need at the automotive flea market.

My New Ride

Today we brought home my new ride, a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder that we picked up yesterday on the way to our nephew's wedding.















With this being my replacement vehicle my 2001 Grand Am GT is being permanently retired to the bone yard out back of the barn. Eventually it will be taken apart and the rest will be sent out for scrap.















Ron will now take over the 2012 Chevy Equinox that I used as my vehicle for taking my artwork to shows.















And last but not least, the 2005 Chevy Blazer will be used as the work horse around the farm until it gives up the ghost and will eventually be retired to the bone yard.

2018 Spring Automotive Flea Market and Douro Car Show

Today is the first day of the weekend Douro Spring Automotive Flea Market and Car Show.

It is being held at the Douro Community Centre and Arena, located at 2893 Highway 28 and County Road 4, in Douro, Ontario.

On both days there is the automotive flea market which is held both outside and inside in the arena.

There is also a book sale in the arena and music performed by two saxophone players known as "Golden Wings", located just outside the arena.

The art show is held inside the community centre in the Harvest Room which featured seven artists and artisans.

The hours are from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Tomorrow there will be an antique car show, to which I am looking forward and plan to take many reference photographs for future paintings.

Hopefully, I will be able to match some of them with the antique "wrecks" that I already reference photographs and sketches.

I would like to thank Mr. Ken Currie of Douro, Ontario on his purchase of the 1950 Ford Custom V8 Convertible pencil drawing (see post on 10 February 2010).

Transportation Show at Art on Kent

Today I did a double shift at Art on Kent for the final day of the Transportation show.

It is a good thing that there is an air conditioner at the Gallery otherwise with the heat 84F (28.9C) and the humidity 93F (33.9C) it would have been unbearable.

I was surprised to see that in the back room one of my paintings had its own wall.

In the main Gallery area five of my paintings were placed in a grouping together by themselves on another wall which was even more surprising.













My final painting with the Transportation theme was in the center of the middle Gallery wall in between two large photographs of antique cars.














The heat didn't keep people from coming in to view the exhibit and even though I had taken out pieces to paint while at the Gallery I didn't have any time to work on them.

Fantasy Car

I haven't done a mechanical drawing in quite a while, much less did pointillism (stippling) in pen and ink in years. Since I had some time to work on a drawing today, I decided to create a sporty looking car.

I am inclined to doubt this design will ever be mass produced and it certainly would not be practical for me to own with all the snow we get here and the rough country roads; but it was fun to play.








This original 5" x 12" pen and ink drawing when matted and shrink wrapped will be available for $75.00.
