This is a drawing that I have been working on of a while (see posts on 26 May 2013, 16 February and 03 May 2017).
First I put in the far shore of the lake into the background and added the trees.
Next I worked on the rocks in the middle area of the drawing, adding shadow to the various rocks.
This original 6" x 9" pen and ink drawing when matter and shrink wrapped will be available for $40.00.

Lone Tree I
Today I wanted to finish this drawing that I had started a couple of years ago (see post on 01 April 2015).
It didn't take very long to apply the pen and ink onto the tree trunk and branches.
I added the grasses and growies to the base of the tree to complete the drawing.
This original 2-3/4" x 9” pen and ink drawing when matted and shrink wrapped will be available for $30.00.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my artwork and I hope you will return often.

Back Forty I-III
Today Ron and I went out in the side by side again and this time we went into the "back forty" which are the fields at the east end of the property before we get into the marsh and the Snelgrove Brook that divides our farm from the acreage we have on the other side of the marsh.
Back Forty I
He worked on removing the larger rocks that could break teach on the mower during haying season and put them into the dump box while I sketched.
Back Forty II
My first sketch was of the "fork" which is where the trail comes down from the middle field into the back field and branches off into the south back field and the south middle field.
My second sketch was of the entryway to the south bottom field with the large trees on each side.
Back Forty III
My last sketch was of the hill in the bottom middle field with the trail leading up to the small north field at the top, right beside the 4 acres (1.6 hectares) of sugar bush.

ACEO - Sunset Island 3
This is a painting that I started last month while teaching a class in watercolour (see post on 31 May 2017).
Using various mixtures of French ultramarine blue and burnt sienna I started by putting in the distant shoreline.
With a darker mix I put in the rocks of the foreground island and then added the pine trees and growies.
Next I finished the painting by putting some reflections into the water below the far shore and the island.
The ACEO shown here is an original watercolour painting using Artist quality Winsor & Newton paint on either 140lb. Arches 100% rag, acid free watercolour paper. It is priced at $20.00 and sold unframed.
If you would like more information about ACEO please go to my post on 11 March 2010.

Front Field I-III
Today we unloaded my new toy off the trailer and took it through the front fields.
Ron stopped along the way to pick some of the larger rocks and put them in the dump box at the back of the side by side in preparation to seeding the fields with hay.
Front Field I
While he was working at the top of the field I did a sketch of the trees along the east fence line.
Front Field II
As we continued around the front field I did my next sketch was of the south east corner of the field at the bottom of the hill before the start of the forested area at the south of the property.
Front Field III
My last sketch for the day was of the forest at the south end of the property.

My New Toy
Today I sat at Art on Kent in Lindsay, Ontario.
The Gallery will remain open until 08 July 2017 at the end of the "What's Your Canada?" exhibit ends.
When I returned home I found this in the driveway on the trailer waiting for me to go for a test drive.
As much as I wanted to drive it today, I had brought supper home and after spending a busy day at the gallery all I wanted to do was relax with my leg up.
I will be happy when I can walk normally without the rollator walker and not get tired so quickly.
But tomorrow is another day and I will be driving around the property in my new toy.

Woodland Nymph
Today I wanted to work on this drawing of a little girl and a fawn that I had started a while ago (see posts on 30 November 2015 and 20 April 2016).
I worked on the fawn first. I wasn't totally happy with the muzzle so I reworked it.
I added more details to the eye, the forehead and the ear.
Next, I positioned the girl where I wanted her to be in relation to the fawn. Although I lost a lot of the fawn's body this seemed to work best.
Now I just have to decide which media I would like to use when I do a painting from this drawing.

Under the Bridge 1 and 2 - Two Works in Progress
Today the KAGS Outdoor Painters' Group held their paint out at the Cavan Art Gallery which is owned and operated by Valerie Kent
The boundary of the property is the Cavan Creek and I set up my table near the bridge on Peterborough County Road 10. What interested me was, the stool, towel and bottle of water that was under the bridge.
Under the Bridge 1
For the first one I had some of the foreground trees, the creek the stuff under the bridge and the road.
Under the Bridge 2
For the second sketch, I concentrated on the stuff under the bridge and the bridge, which I thought would also make an interesting drawing.
Thank you for coming to look at my artwork.

Therese's Oven I
Since it is going to rain all day, I thought I would like to work on this piece that I had started a few years ago (see posts on 26 August 2013 and 23 December 2016) when I was on a paint out with the KAGS Outdoor Painters' Group.
I started by working on the rocks on the oven, adding the highlights and the shadows to all of the stonework.
After working on this for a couple of hours the stonework was finally completed. It was time for a break and some lunch.
After lunch I put the wire between the fence posts and in behind the tree on the left side of the oven.
I put the tree branches on the right side of the drawing and the Virginia creeper vines on the page wire fence and growing on and around the oven.
Lastly, I added in the grasses and growies around the base of the oven, fence posts and trees.
This original 6" x 9" pen and ink when it has been matted and shrink wrapped will be available for $75.00.

Burleigh Inn I-V
Today I went on a paint out with the KAGS Outdoor Painters' Group to the Burleigh Inn located right beside Burleigh Falls.
It was too muddy for me to get down to the Falls safely, so I stayed by the Burleigh Inn at their marina and did some sketching.
Cindy helped me get set up at the end of the dock where I had a lot of things draw.
I started with a boat with lovely reflections that was moored at the end of the marina facing out at the lake.
Burleigh Inn I
To the right of me at the end of the dock was a mooring chain.
The chain was anchored in the pink granite rock face that ran down into the water.
The attachment bolt at the end of the chain was under the water.
I found it interesting the way the water distorted the position of the bolt.
It moved it to the side instead of directly following the line down beneath the water.
Burleigh Inn III
On the opposite side of the marina entrance there is a tall white pine which was the subject of my next sketch.
I started with the waterline at the bottom of the rock face and built the rock up to the base of the tree.
I put the trunk of the pine in first and then started to add the branches and pine needles onto the tree.
Next I put in the deciduous tree trunks beside the pine on top of the rock face with some grasses and growies.
Burleigh Inn IV
By then it was lunch time and all of us got together under the shade of the trees and relaxed for a little while.
Burleigh Inn II
After lunch I stayed in the shade and worked on a sketch of the rock face as it goes beneath the water and showing the rock through the crystal clear water of the lake.
Burleigh Inn V
For my last sketch, I chose to do the stone stairs leading down to the marina from the cottages. It was surrounded by ferns and shrubbery, with lights along the sides for night time.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and enjoy the artwork.

Through the Woods 2 and 3
I am glad that today is sunny and warm at 73F (23C) with a gentle breeze keeping things pleasant for my niece, Jordan's Graduation at Trent University.
She has been living with us for the almost three years and today she has attained her Bachelor of Science Degree and I am very proud of her.
Through the Woods 2
I made sure that I had plenty of time to get to the University, which had a special area reserved for people with physical disabilities. Since I am gradually learning to walk again and today is the end of the second week for me to be able to put full weight on my leg and I am getting a little more used to using the rollator to learn how to walk again.
Through the Woods 3
On my way home I went out through the back parking lot at Trent onto a side road. On the road I came across two paths going through the woodlots on either side of the road.

ACEO - Autumn Trees 14
This is the last of five small paintings I started while staying at the Knoepfli Inn in Magnetawan, Ontario a couple of years ago (see post on 05 October 2015).
I started with raw sienna, new gamboge and alizarin crimson and painted the distant trees and gradually darkened the colour to put in the middle ground foliage.
The dark foreground was putting in with a mix of French ultramarine blue and raw sienna.
Using the foreground colour plus burnt sienna I painted the tree trunks through the middle area and into the background.
With a sponge and mixes of new gamboge, raw sienna, cadmium red, cadmium yellow and alizarin crimson I added leaves onto the bare trees.
Cadmium red and cadmium yellow was added into the foreground to create interest.
If you would like more information about ACEO please go to my post on 11 March 2010.
The ACEO shown here is an original watercolour painting using Artist quality Winsor & Newton paint on 140lb. Arches 100% rag, acid free watercolour paper. It is priced at $20.00 and sold unframed.

Ocean View I
Today I sat the exhibit at Art on Kent in Lindsay, Ontario.
While I was there I worked on this drawing that I had started a number of years ago while vacationing in Veradero, Cuba (see post on 18 December 2013).
First I started by putting in the horizon line in the distance and added some white caps in the ocean.
Next I worked on the palm trees starting with the coconuts and then adding the fronds and lastly the tree trunks.
To finish the foreground, I joined the growies together in front of the palm trees.
I worked on the clouds next, starting with the large fluffy clouds that were lower in the sky and then the smaller, higher ones in the top of the sky.
Thank you for coming to look at my artwork and I hope you will return often.
