Tied Up 3 - A Work in Progress

Although there was a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for the area, all we received were a few rumbles of thunder and a strong wind.

I thought I would do a little more work in this painting that I had started a few years ago (see posts on 11 September 2014 and 16 December 2016).

I started in the background with a mixture of raw sienna French ultramarine blue, for a soft green to indicate the distant trees. I mixed in a little burnt sienna to the green and put in the posts for the pier.

Using a various mixtures of burnt sienna and raw sienna I painted the sand onto the beach.

I will post this painting again once the pier and the water have been completed.

Clear Lake II - A Work in Progress

The swallows have arrived! I saw one pair of barn swallows and two pairs of tree swallows. Hopefully this year they will nest again in the barn and in the surrounding trees.

I decided that I would continue to ink in this drawing (see posts on 09 June 2013, 23 March and 12 October 2016 and 05 March 2017).

First, I lightly put in the distant trees into the background behind the far rocks.

Next I indicated the top of the distant rocks and then the closer rock, at which time I added the small pine tree.

Then I turned my attention to completing the three large trees on the island.

I will post this painting at a later date once I have completed the shadows on the rock.

Long Lake V - A Work in Progress

Today, I thought I would like to work in pen and ink, as I looked through my sketches of the lakes in the area, I decided on this piece that I had started a number of years ago (see post on 15 June 2013) while we were canoeing on Long Lake.

I started by putting in the water at the base of the rock face, and from there I put in the larger tree on the right side of the rocks.

Next, I started adding the shadows on the large stones that made up most of the cliff, but before I could get much further along on this drawing I had company come over.

I will post this drawing at a later date as more work on it is completed.

Abandoned House I - A Work in Progress

Today I have to go to P.R.H.C. and get the results of my bone density scan.

While I was waiting for Christine to come and take me to the hospital I thought I would like to do a little more work on this drawing that I had started a few years ago (see posts on 18 Jun 2013, 20 March and 29 July 2016 and 14 January 2017).

I started by putting in the mortar around the stones on the walls of the house.

As I finished indicating the last stone in the wall Christine arrived. I will post this drawing at a later date once I have inked in the stones.

Pink Sky 2-4 Three Works in Progress

Today I thought I would like to work on these three paintings that I had started last year (see post on 16 October 2016) and thought like to try and get them completed today.

Working back and forth on each painting I drew in the horizon line, placed an island into the lake and drew pine trees onto the island.

I mixed a green of French ultramarine blue, Antwerp blue and burnt sienna and painted in the trees on the far shore of the lake on each painting.

The rocks were made of washes of alizarin crimson and burnt sienna.

After the first and second layers dried I added a little ultramarine blue together with both rock colours put in the shadows on the rocks and the waterline at their base.

Next I mixed a dark green of both blues and raw sienna and indicated the main tree trunk and branches and started to put on the pine needles.

Before I could go any further on these paintings Christine came over and wanted to take us out for supper.

I will post each of these paintings at a later date once the trees have been completed.

Birch Tree Trunks I - A Work in Progress

Christine came up today after work to do the barn chores and fill all of my bird feeders. She knows how much I enjoy watching all the different species of birds that come to visit me.

Lately, there have been lots of little birds and today was no exception, I had Tree Sparrows, Chipping Sparrows, Fox Sparrows and Song Sparrows and White Crowned Sparrows in addition to the many Chickadees, Dark-Eyed Juncos, Goldfinch, Red Polls and Purple Finches.

While sitting at small table near the window I thought I may as well do something productive and I started to work on this drawing that I had started a while ago (see posts on 11 June 2015 and 01 January 2017).

I had pulled out a couple of photographs of the birch trees by Cabin 5 at the Knoepfli Inn in Magnetawan and started adding some of the birch trees from there onto on each side of the three trees in the drawing.

I finished the birch trees to the left side of the original trees and am pleased with the results.

I will post this drawing at a later date once all the birch trees have been completed.

ACEO - Peach Sky 6

I started this piece last year (see post on 07 December 2016) while I was playing with opaque watercolour paint.

First I lightly indicated the main tree trunks and then I mixed various greens from Antwerp Blue, French ultramarine blue, raw sienna, new gamboge and aureolin.

Working from the left side of the painting across to the right side I put in the tree trunks, branches and needles until all the trees were completed.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and look at the artwork. I hope you will return often.
