On Golden Pond - A Work in Progress

Since today I was painting with the Buckhorn Tuesday Painting Group I took along a number of paintings from Magnetawan.

This is a sketch I had started (see posting 30 October 2011) one afternoon the first time I went to Magnetawan while I was sitting on the bench by the well that overlooked a quiet inlet.

Since the original reference photographs were lost when I had computer problems I decided to bring the sketch with me this year and try and get it completed.

This year there were a lot more leaves on the trees and I made changes to the sketch and masked out the areas that need to be kept clean for the bright coloured leaves and sunlit areas.

I will post this painting at a later date once more work on it has been completed.

Green Eyes - A Work in Progress

Victoria Wallace taught a class in grisaille painting with at twist at the Kawartha Artists' Gallery and Studio.

We were shown the artistic technique used by the old Masters of painting Grisaille (an under painting in shades of grey) with the modern twist of using acrylic medium with charcoal, markers and/or graphite to create the grey base.

The image was drawn on the canvas in my case with charcoal and the acrylic mat medium was used to spread the grey colour and blend it on the canvas for the light and dark grey values.

I will probably start another two paintings of cat's eyes using some of the other grisaille shades. Paintings where green is used as the base colour are often referred to as verdaille and those that use a brown base are often called brunaille.

I will post this painting at a later date as more of it is completed.

Turban Squash I - A Work in Progress

This is one of the Turban Squash that was a part of one of the still life displays from last month (see posting on 04 October 2013).

I started this one while sitting in the afternoon at the Kawartha Artists' Gallery along with a couple of other small pieces (see posting on 05 October 2013).













I will post this painting at a later date once it has been completed.

The onions that were in the still life display on had a lot of character and I worked on smaller versions of them.

Sunflowers, Squash and Onions - A Work in Progress

This is one of two paintings I started during the Still Life class at KAGS last month.

It was an interesting arrangement of a basket filled with sunflowers, together with a pumpkin, turban squash and onions.

I will post this painting at a later date once more of it has been completed.

Knoepfli Inn - A Work in Progress

This is a sketch I started of the Knoepfli Inn from across the road in the building they refer to as the "Farmhouse".













After doing my drawing I only had time to paint in the foreground tree before the light shifted and I stopped painting. I have photographs as reference for when I work on this painting at a later date.












We had to leave the Knoepfli Inn after breakfast this morning and head back home.










Once I return home I have to go to KAGS and pick up my paintings from the Rural Scenes show which closes at 4:00pm today.
