ACEO - Garden Shed 2

Today is the first day of the Creative Hands on Festival and Lois Shaw, Jewell Allington and I were the artists displaying our art work and representing KAGS.

It is being held on the lower level of the Peterborough Square from 13-15 September 2019 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

In between showing people how to paint pine trees in watercolour I worked on this painting that I had started a number of years ago while painting with the KAGS Outdoor Painters' Group on location (see posts on 16 May 2016, 29 May and 19 October 2017).

By the end of the day three people went home with lovely little watercolour paintings of pine trees.

If you would like more information about ACEO please go to my post on 11 March 2010.

The ACEO shown here is an original watercolour painting using Artist quality Winsor & Newton paint on 140lb. Arches 100% rag, acid free watercolour paper. It is priced at $20.00 and sold unframed.

Exhibit at the Selwyn Public Library - Bridgenorth Branch

Today I arrived at the Bridgenorth Library as it was opening and brought my remaining paintings into the building.

I started by hanging paintings on the north wall behind the chairs and the tables before anyone came inside to use them.

Now that those paintings were hung I could work on the large display area on the south wall behind the front desk.

I started by hanging the large painting of the girl and the draft horse on the second panel first to get the largest painting hung and out of the way.

As I looked at the remaining paintings, I decided to keep the two horses together and put the pencil drawing of the horse to the right of the large painting.

With there being a person in the large painting I tried putting the two paintings with people in them on the next panel.

Unfortunately, it didn't look right to me, so I moved the portrait to the next panel and hung the painting with the sailboat below the figure skater, which looked much more balanced.

I left the portrait to the right side of the last panel and hung my final two paintings on the left side one above the other.

Next, I went around and cleaned any glass that may have gotten finger prints on the glass while I was hanging the show.

Lastly, I put all the labels by the paintings and made sure that all of the paintings were hanging straight.

If you have a chance, please come out and view this display at the Selwyn Public Library - Bridgenorth Branch, Located at 836 Charles Street, Bridgenorth, Ontario. The exhibit runs from 04 September - 08 October 2019

Hanging the Exhibit at the Selwyn Library - Bridgenorth Branch

Today I went to the Selwyn Public Library - Bridgenorth Branch, located at 836 Charles St., in Bridgenorth, Ontario to hang my exhibit.

Once I brought my paintings into the library and put all the containers by the wall near the desk, one of the librarians showed me how to use the wire picture hanging system and how it hooked into the tracks on most of the walls.

On the north wall most of the paintings were hung either on nails that were already set into the walls or were hung from nails in the edging at the top of the wall.

I started with the west wall first, as most of the areas were between the windows and I thought that putting abstract paintings there would look well.

Since the spaces between the windows were not the same size, some were larger spaces and others were smaller spaces. I put one painting for the most part in the smaller spaces and two paintings in the larger spaces.

Once that wall was completed, I started on the long north wall, which had larger sections and a few small sections between the windows. It differed in that there were a couple of sets of tables and chairs, low book shelves and a few large chairs against the wall.

I started from the corner and gradually worked my way across the wall in the areas where there were no people using the chairs or tables.

I did manage to get almost half of the north wall hung, but couldn't go much further without having to ask people to move, which I wasn't going to do in the library.

From there, I started putting up the main paintings on the display area on the east wall just back of the main desk. By then the library was going to close and I removed my empty containers and remaining paintings.

Tomorrow first thing in the morning, when the library opens I will return and hang the paintings on the west wall over the chairs and tables before they are occupied and finish hanging the east wall.

The exhibit will run from 04 September - 08 October 2019.

Chemong Lake VI and VII

Since Ron didn't have to work today, we decided to go out on Chemong Lake in the pontoon boat.

We didn't go too far from the boat launch and stopped in the first inlet and let the current carry the boat along.

Chemong Lake VI - The Orange Barns

I turned and faced a different direction and on a hill there were a couple of barns and a farmhouse which I finished drawing before it started to rain.

Chemong Lake VII - Distant Barns

Ron managed to catch two bass and I did two pencil drawings, so it was a good day all around.
