It's a Dog's World 1 and 2 - Two Works in Progress
Today I am at KAGS all day; first for the Still Life class in the morning and then sitting the Gallery in the afternoon.
The theme for the class is Pet Supplies. We had a number of things for the display relating to dogs, stuffed animals, a rubber ball, dog biscuits, chew sticks, brushes, dog treats and a collar and leash.
It's a Dog's World 1
For the first one I chose to use the stuffed toy Dachshund and the St. Bernard holding a heart, together with a collar and leash, a few dog treats and a rubber ball.
For the second one I made it a little simpler and to used the stuffed toy dachshund, the food dish, the jar with dog treats spilling out and a box of dog biscuits.

I will post each of these drawings at a later time when more work on them has been completed.

Awakening Exhibit at KAGS
Today is the first day of the Awakening show at KAGS.
We had 63 paintings which is the first time in quite a while that we have had as many entries as this for a show.
I brought in four smaller pieces which would fit in pretty much anywhere.
The show's opening reception will be held on Sunday, 03 March from 1-4 p.m.
The exhibit will continue through to 24 March 2019.
I hope that you will be able come out and view the art; it is well worth the trip to see the variety and quality of the exhibit.

Snelgrove Brook 1 - A Work in Progress
Today is not going to be a pleasant day, with having had freezing rain overnight and a Meteorological Alert for Wind Warnings of sustained winds of 31mph (50km/h) and wind gusts of 62-68mph (100-110km/h), a high of 37F (3C) and two thunderstorms, one in the morning and one in the afternoon (although I am not going to complain about the thunderstorms, as I enjoy watching them).
I decided that since I am staying indoors I may as well paint. I picked this piece that I had started a number of years ago while driving home (see posts on 23 September 2013 and 08 December 2018).
I started with the pine trees in the forest behind them using mixtures of French ultramarine blue, burnt sienna and raw sienna.
Next, I put in the reeds along the far side of the brook, using various mixtures of raw sienna, burnt sienna, aureolin and new gamboge.
I will post this painting at a later date once I have put in the foreground shoreline.

ACEO - Dusk 6
It is cold today with the high being 21F (-6C) with the wind chill making it feel like 10F (-12C); so it was nice that I was painting with the Buckhorn Tuesday Painting Group.
I wanted to try and get this painting completed that I had started a couple of years ago (see posts on 08 April and 09 December 2017).
For this piece I mixed a wide variety of greens using combinations of Antwerp blue, French ultramarine blue, aureolin, new gamboge and raw sienna.
I started with the trees in the background first with lighter shades of green and gradually darkened the colours as I worked toward the foreground trees which were the darkest.
Next I mixed a dark of French ultramarine blue and burnt sienna and put in the dead tree trunks as well as the branches and trunks on the live foreground trees that showed between the pine needles.
Lastly, I used burnt sienna, raw sienna, new gamboge, aureolin and cadmium yellow for the grasses and growies at the base of the trees and in the foreground.

The ACEO shown here is an original watercolour painting using Artist quality Winsor & Newton paint on 140lb. Arches 100% rag, acid free watercolour paper. It is priced at $20.00 and sold unframed.

2019 Canadian International Auto Show
Christine had gotten Ron a pair of tickets as his birthday gift to the 2019 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, being held in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and we are going down to spend the day enjoying the exhibits.
We were fortunate that with it being the Flag Day long holiday weekend most of the traffic was heading out of the city.
1936 Chevrolet Master Delux El Padrote
We arrived just as the doors to the exhibit were opening and it didn't take long to enter the show and get started looking at the exhibits in the South Building Lobby - Level 600 most of which were retail vendors.
From there we went to the displays in the Alley - Level 700 where I thoroughly enjoyed the Art and the Automobile Display.

From there we proceeded to the Main Floor - Level 800 our first stop were the Army vehicles in the Military Zone. Some of them are huge monsters and they had a number of antique Military vehicles as well.
We continued through the displays on this floor and saw a number of imports including Alfa Romero, BMW/Mini, Jaguar/Land Rover and Porche.

From there we went into the North Building Main Floor - Level 300 and started with the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Canada display to see the new Jeeps which were on display.
We continued on this level going over to see the new Nissans. I liked the look of the Leaf, but it is not practical and definitely wouldn't survive on my unpaved country roads.
Nissan All Terrain/Snow Tracks
But, I enjoyed seeing the Altimate with its tracks in place of tires, which would be fabulous to use on the farm in the winter going up and down the many snow covered hills on the property.
By this time we had been at the show for five hours and it was time to have lunch, so we headed to Lobby - Level 2 for the Food Concessions.

After lunch we headed to the final floor which was Auto Exotica - Level 100, which had so many things that I wanted to see starting with the Devel Sixteen. I think we should have started here and worked our way in the opposite direction.
After we went through the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame, we went to the Legendary Motorcar Company and then the Grand Touring Automobiles.

Next we went to Autostrada and enjoyed the many vehicles, followed by the McLaren, PFAFF and Lotus displays.
Lastly, we went and looked at my personal favourite the Lamborghini.

While the metallic lilac colour would not have been my colour of choice, it is only $680,380.00 plus taxes; and Ron decided he wasn't going to get it for me as a birthday gift.
It was time to head home and fortunately we weren't parked very far away.
