Old Cottage II - A Work in Progress

I pulled this drawing out that I started quite a while ago (see posts on 14 July 2013 and 31 May 2016) while at a paint out with the KAGS Outdoor Painters' Group.

After looking at the drawing I decided that I didn't want to put in the wheelbarrow leaning against the building and I put in the wooden boards across on that side of the building.

From there I added the grasses and growies at the base of the larger part of the building as well as putting the climber going up the side of the building.

I put the shadows beneath the eaves on both sections of the building.

Next I darkened in the broken window on the smaller section of the building.

I will post this drawing at a later date once more work on it has been completed.

Twin Falls

This is the painting I did for tonight's class at The Point.

I have decided that I will donate this original 8" x 10" acrylic painting as the first of two that I will be donate for the Small Treasures show held at the Kawartha Artists' Gallery and Studio  in March to raise prize money for the Best of High School Art Show held each May.

Now I have to complete the other canvas that I started last year.

Thank you for coming to look at my artwork.

School's Out - A Work in Progress

Today, I thought I would do a little more work on this drawing (see posts on 15 July and 28 December 2016 and 29 January 2017) which is an underwater scene near the rest stop at the CoCo View Resort.

I started by adding more details onto the branches of the sea fan at the top of the rock and indicating the outer edges of the fan.

Next, I brought the outer edge of the large rock down and in behind the tube sponges.

I added some of the shadows onto the tube sponges to give them a little more shape.

I will post this drawing at a later date once I have finished adding all the details onto the various fishes.

Winter Solo I - A Work in Progrress

Today I wanted to do more work on this painting that I had started last month (see post on 31 December 2017).

Using titanium white, cerulean blue and Grumbacher red I put in some of the trees on the far side of the lake.

Making a dark of French ultramarine blue and burnt sienna I painted in the trunk of the main tree.

With pure white I put in the snow covered frozen lake, followed by adding a little of the tree color for some of the shadows on the lake.

Using white in some areas, followed by the lake shadow colour and leaving some areas of the dark rocks showing through the snow.

I wanted to put in a few grasses and growies on the top of the rocks.

With various mixtures of raw sienna, cadmium yellow and burnt sienna and put them at the base of the tree trunk and then scattered some across the rocks.

I will post this painting at a later date once it has been completed.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and look at the artwork. I hope you will return often.

Resting Place - A Work in Progress

There is a flash freeze warning in place for this afternoon and it looks like we are going to have freezing rain all day. Needless to say, I decided that I would stay in and go through a box of art supplies that I brought down from the heated storage room I have upstairs.

While I was going through some of the pads of acrylic, pastel and drawing paper I found this partially completed drawing that I had started in the 90's when I was doing a number of drawings in pastel.

I started by blocking in the sunlit background with a pale yellow green, then applied the base for three cedar tree trunks with a medium brown followed by using a dark green for the base colour of the cedar foliage.

Using a soft grey, I put in a little bit of detail into the cedar foliage, followed by using a yellow green for some variation. Then I added a few cedar boughs of different greens to see in which direction I wanted to take the cedar colours.

Lastly, I put in the base for the foreground with yellow ochre and then started adding a little detail into the grasses with various greens into the foreground before calling it a day.

I will post this drawing at a later date once more work on it has been completed.

ACEO - Pottery 5

With working on the pottery bowl yesterday I thought I would like to finish this painting that I have been working on for quite a while (see posts on 26 March 2013 and 27 October 2016).

I liked the colour of the tablecloth under the bowl that I worked on yesterday, so I decided to use the same colours (new gamboge, aureolin and cadmium yellow) today.

I added another layer of cadmium yellow to brighten the left side.

If you would like more information about ACEO please go to my post on 11 March 2010.

The ACEO shown here is an original watercolour painting using Artist quality Winsor & Newton paint on 140lb. Arches 100% rag, acid free watercolour paper. It is priced at $20.00 and sold unframed.

Pottery 6 - A Work in Progress

I pulled this piece out that I started a few years ago (see post on 26 March 2013) and I worked to balance top and bottom of the bowl.

Next I drew the main section of the bowl trying to make both sides if the bowl match. I am  still not happy with it but it have to do for now.

Using new gamboge, aureolin and cadmium yellow I put in the top of the table beneath the bowl.

I will post this painting at a later date once more work on it has been completed.
