Clear Lake IX

I wanted to finish this drawing that I had originally started a long time ago (see posts on 09 June 2013, 27 May, 18 July and 29 August 2017) while canoeing on Clear Lake.

I started by completing the deciduous trees in the centre area of the drawing and put in the background trees in behind.

Next I added more of the rocks against the shoreline and added the shadows and reflections to each of them until the foreground area was complete.

I then added the background across the distant shore and put in the various pine trees across the island and a few into the background.

Lastly I added a mother duck and her young ducklings following along behind into the water of the lake.

This original 6" x 9" pen and ink drawing when matted and shrink wrapped will be available for $40.00.

ACEO - Morning Sky 10

When I returned from my physiotherapy appointment, I wanted to work on something I could finish today so I pulled out this painting that I had started earlier this year (see post on 28 February 2017).

Using French ultramarine blue and burnt sienna I painted in the tree trunks and main branches.

With mixtures of French ultramarine blue, Antwerp blue, new gamboge and aureolin I added the foliage onto the trees.

If you would like more information about ACEO please go to my post on 11 March 2010.

The ACEO shown here is an original watercolour painting using Artist quality Winsor & Newton paint on 140lb. Arches 100% rag, acid free watercolour paper. It is priced at $20.00 and sold unframed.

Three Rivers

The heat 81F (27C) and humidity 91F (33C) are back again and having the temperatures this high in are unusual.

So to think cool thoughts I decided to do a few drawings of partially frozen rivers in the winter with snow on the ground and trees.

Bend in the River 1

For the first one I wanted to have a covering of snow on the ground with thin ice forming along some sections of the river bank; together with an ice fog in the background to keep things misty.

Evening River 1

For the second one I wanted a deep layer of snow on the ground and in the branches of the pine trees. The river would have a thin layer of ice across most of its surface and some grasses and growies poking out of the snow.

Sunset River 1

On the third one I wanted a light dusting of snow on the ground which would allow the rocks to show through the snow. The river would be open water and the trees would be a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees.

Any of these sketches could easily be developed into paintings in either watercolour or acrylic, which I may do at a later date.

The Point

Today Norma, Cindy and I went out for breakfast at The Point - the Young's Point Diner and Pizzeria, at 403 South Beach Road, Lakefield, Ontario.

Norma had to take her paintings out from The Point for another exhibit and to donate one of the paintings to the auction to raise funds for the Douro-Dummer Library Art Gallery.

It didn't take long for Norma to take down her paintings and put them into containers.

Then it was my turn to unwrap my paintings and decide where to place them on the walls.

On the long wall I placed four small paintings among the three paintings of mine that were there already.

On the short wall I added another nail into the wall and hung an additional four paintings.

Viamede Resort I-III

Today the KAGS Outdoor Painters' Group went to the Viamede Resort in Woodview, Ontario.

When Cindy, Norma and I arrived in the upper parking lot at the Viamede Resort, I stopped to take some photographs of the chapel on the property where numerous weddings have been held over the years since it was established in 1877.

From there we went back across the parking lot and started down the paved pathway to the docks on Stoney Lake.

I didn't go down onto the dock, but stayed in the patio area just above them.
The lake was very calm and I took photographs of the cottages on its edge that cast long reflections across the water.

Viamede III - Flower Pot

I sat down at one of the picnic tables and started sketching the cottages before the wind came up and blurred their reflections.

Once my drawing of the cottages was completed, I started on a sketch of the large wooden barrel planters at both entrances to the patio.

They were filled with ivy, dark purple petunias, bright pink geraniums and salvia.

What intrigued me was the use of two hawsers (a heavy rope used for mooring) running between the posts that surrounded the patio giving it a nautical theme.

Which, is fitting since the docks and boat house are right there.

Viamede II - Planters

Once I finished that sketch I noticed a flower pot on the upper level of the boathouse.

It had a black eyed Susan vine growing out of the pot and climbing up the corner post on the rail fence around the deck.

Viamede I - Cottage Reflections

At a later time I may turn each of these drawings into either watercolour or acrylic paintings.

Thank you for coming to look at my artwork.

Back Forty I

Today I wanted to complete this sketch that I had started while out in the back fields with Ron (see post on 25 June 2017).

I started with the main maple tree in the foreground and then added the beech tree in the middle area.

On the right side I put in another smaller maple tree and added the grasses and growies beneath them.

Next I added some grasses to indicate a small rise a little further back in the field, but it looked a little plain so I added a couple more maple trees.

Lastly I added in a tree another field further back and put in the edge of the distant forest.

This original 4-1/2" x 6" pen and ink drawing when matted and shrink wrapped will be available for $40.00.
