Today I saw my first tree swallow. They are late returning from the south as are many other species; but is nice to have them back.
With their return it had me thinking about being out on the lakes and sketching while in the canoe.
I pulled out a couple of sketches from previous years (see posts from 14 September 2014 and 26 September 2015).
I started with the most recent one and inked in the three tall pine trees on an island.
Loon Call Lake IX
I put in the rock outline, the waterline and then added the small bushes and growies around the base of the trees before setting it aside to see what more it needed.
Loon Call Lake II
I started on the next one by putting in the background shoreline, some of the more prominent trees in the distance and the waterline. But before I could go any further I had unexpected company arrive and I had to put everything away.
I will post each of these paintings at a later date as more work on them is completed.
