Mean Sky - A Work in Progress

For a change I decided to paint in acrylic instead of in watercolour. The differences between the two water based paints never fails to amaze me.

With watercolour the paint continues to flow across the paper when applied wet on wet creating many interesting "accidents", while with the acrylics you have to place the paint where you want it to be and use either your brush or a palette knife to move it across the canvas, it doesn't move on its own.

The sky, water and distant shoreline were painted in using various mixtures of French ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson and white.

Alizarin crimson, Hansa yellow and and white were used to create the last traces of the setting sun and the reflections on the water.

Next the foreground land and trees were been drawn in and will be painted at a later date.
