Rural Outlook Poster

Today I completed the poster and invitations for the KAGS Outdoor Painters' Group art show called "Rural Outlook".

After I had it proof read by Cindy Allan and Norma MacEachern my co-conveners I went and had it and the invitations for the exhibit printed and the members of the Group were emailed to come in to pick them up and distribute them throughout the area.

It should be an interesting show with 14 artists displaying their art work.

The show runs from 25 October through to 12 November with the opening reception on Sunday 29 October 2017 from 1-4 p.m.

I hope you are able to come out and enjoy the exhibit.

Clear Lake II

I have been working on this drawing for a while (see posts on 09 June 2013, 23 March and 12 October 2016, 05 March and 17 May 2017).

First I started by putting in the remaining background trees in behind the three pine trees and behind the large rocks on the left side of the drawing.

To finish this drawing I added the shadows onto all the rocks in the background.

This original 6-1/4" x 9" pen and ink drawing when matted and shrink wrapped will be available for $50.00.

Upper Stoney Lake II

Today I was sitting the 150 Years of Canadian History exhibition at KAGS today which is open this weekend from 10:00a.m.-2:00p.m. due to the Kawartha Autumn Studio Tour.

I thought while I as at the Gallery I would fill in the time in between visitors by working on a number of pen and ink drawings that are in various stages of completion.

The nice thing about working on these drawings is that I can easily leave them to answer questions about the exhibit and once the visitors have left, return to the drawing.

I wanted to finish this drawing of Upper Stoney Lake that I did the original sketch a couple of years ago (see posts on 24 August 2015 and 04 August 2017) while at Quarry Bay Beach enjoying the sun, sand and water.

All I needed was to put in the distant shoreline and add the trees and rocks along the edge of the lake.

This original 7-1/2" x 9" pen and ink drawing when matted and shrink wrapped will be available for $40.00.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and look at the artwork.

Clear Lake IX

I wanted to finish this drawing that I had originally started a long time ago (see posts on 09 June 2013, 27 May, 18 July and 29 August 2017) while canoeing on Clear Lake.

I started by completing the deciduous trees in the centre area of the drawing and put in the background trees in behind.

Next I added more of the rocks against the shoreline and added the shadows and reflections to each of them until the foreground area was complete.

I then added the background across the distant shore and put in the various pine trees across the island and a few into the background.

Lastly I added a mother duck and her young ducklings following along behind into the water of the lake.

This original 6" x 9" pen and ink drawing when matted and shrink wrapped will be available for $40.00.

ACEO - Morning Sky 10

When I returned from my physiotherapy appointment, I wanted to work on something I could finish today so I pulled out this painting that I had started earlier this year (see post on 28 February 2017).

Using French ultramarine blue and burnt sienna I painted in the tree trunks and main branches.

With mixtures of French ultramarine blue, Antwerp blue, new gamboge and aureolin I added the foliage onto the trees.

If you would like more information about ACEO please go to my post on 11 March 2010.

The ACEO shown here is an original watercolour painting using Artist quality Winsor & Newton paint on 140lb. Arches 100% rag, acid free watercolour paper. It is priced at $20.00 and sold unframed.

Three Rivers

The heat 81F (27C) and humidity 91F (33C) are back again and having the temperatures this high in are unusual.

So to think cool thoughts I decided to do a few drawings of partially frozen rivers in the winter with snow on the ground and trees.

Bend in the River 1

For the first one I wanted to have a covering of snow on the ground with thin ice forming along some sections of the river bank; together with an ice fog in the background to keep things misty.

Evening River 1

For the second one I wanted a deep layer of snow on the ground and in the branches of the pine trees. The river would have a thin layer of ice across most of its surface and some grasses and growies poking out of the snow.

Sunset River 1

On the third one I wanted a light dusting of snow on the ground which would allow the rocks to show through the snow. The river would be open water and the trees would be a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees.

Any of these sketches could easily be developed into paintings in either watercolour or acrylic, which I may do at a later date.
