Trotting

It is another nice sunny day with the temperature slightly above seasonal at 74F (23C)

After working in the garden most of the morning I decided to take a break and watch a program on Standardbreds after lunch.

I wanted to do some quick sketches and did this trotter while I watched the program.

It still needs a lot more work before it is a completed drawing but, I have the basics down.

The back is too long, the body is off kilter and it needs a lot more detail.

I will post it again at a later date once more work on it has been completed.

Communion - A Work in Progress

Today I am painting with the St. John's Art Group who was formerly called the Lakefield Creative Arts Guild.

It was decided that the Group would hold an art show in the fall of paintings of the Church to celebrate its 150th Anniversary.

We went through the Church both inside and outside making sketches and taking photographs of things that we would be interested in painting.

What caught my attention was the light coming through the stained glass window and touching the communion tray. I took a number of photographs of it and had plenty of reference material.

I also took photographs for at least three other paintings I may do for the exhibition from inside the Church.

We then set the dates and times for the show before we left for the day, which are as follows:
St. John the Baptist Anglican Church - 150th Anniversary Art Show and Sale
10 Sep - 29 Oct. on Saturdays from 11am-2pm.
Opening Reception 10 Sep 16 from 11am-3pm.

Once I returned home I started on the drawing and transferred it onto a piece of watercolour paper.

I masked out the areas where I didn't want covered in paint used for the background with liquid masking fluid.

Then I set this painting aside to dry and will complete it at a later date.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and enjoy the artwork.

ACEO - Cold Day 2

Today I thought I would like to finish this painting that I had started a while ago (see posts on 27 November 2013 and 14 March 2016).

Using French ultramarine blue I darkened some areas of the ice on the water.

I added burnt sienna to the blue and painted in the tree trunks and branches on the larger trees, a slightly lighter mix was used on the twigs and bushes into the foreground.

Next I used various mixtures of burnt sienna, raw sienna and new gamboge to put on the leaves as well as the grasses and growies at the base of the trees and bushes.

If you would like more information about ACEO please go to my post on 11 March 2010.

The ACEO shown here is an original watercolour painting using Artist quality Winsor & Newton paint on 140lb. Lanaquarelle 100% cotton, acid free watercolour paper. It is priced at $20.00 and sold unframed.

Petals Art Show at Art on Kent

Today I sat the morning shift for the Petals exhibition at Art on Kent in Lindsay, Ontario.

Normally, I sit for the last shift on Saturday on the closing day of the show; but tomorrow we are going to Toronto and taking Ron's mother out for supper for mothers' day.

I had three paintings in this show which features many lovely paintings and photographs of a wide variety of flowers, weeds and gardens.

If you have the opportunity, please drop by the show before it closes tomorrow at 3:00p.m.

It is well worth the drive to Lindsay.

Sailboat 2 - A Work in Progress

Today I sat the final day of the Floral and Still Life show at the Kawartha Artists’ Gallery and Studio.

While I was there I thought I would try and complete this painting that I have been working on and off for some time (see posts on 29 August 2015, 24 January and 28 February 2016).

I painted the distant shoreline with trees and set it aside to dry before removing the miskit.

Unfortunately for me the Gallery became very busy and I wasn't able to paint.

I will post this painting at a later date once I have completed the sailboat.

Evening on the Lake - A Work in Progress

I didn't have very much time to paint today before I had to leave and go to KAGS to take photographs of the Best of High School Art show and put it into a slide show for the Awards night.

I decided to work on this piece that I started last year (see posts on 29 August and 08 December 2015 and 08 February 2016).

Using a mixture of French ultramarine blue and raw sienna I put trees on the horizon line for the distant shore.

I set the painting aside to let it dry completely and then removed the miskit.

I will post this painting at a later date once I start painting the sailboat and maybe lift a moon out of the sky.

Thank you for coming to look at my artwork and I hope you will return often.
