Today was a nice warm sunny day and I decided to go out and do some sketching at Burleigh Falls.

I did most of the sketches on small pieces of watercolour paper that will be fairly easy to complete when I return home with the reference photographs I took at the same time.

Red Sponges 1 and 2 - Two Works in Progress

These are two paintings I started while I was sitting at the final day of the Monochrome Show at KAGS.

Since the show was called Monochrome I thought I should work the under painting with one colour and I chose alizarin crimson.

I brushed water onto the two pieces of paper being sure to leave some areas dry.

Using a brush I dropped in various strengths of the alizarin crimson and while the paper was still wet rolled it around allowing the paint to float across the water.

Once the painting was dry I started on the first piece giving shape to the sponges using various mixtures of alizarin crimson, burnt sienna, French ultramarine blue, cadmium red and cadmium yellow.

I will post these paintings at a later date as more work is completed on them.

Blogger Problems Resolved

It seems the problem with blogger is that it no longer supports Internet Explorer 8 so all that was needed  was to download the latest version of Mozilla Firefox and everything is back to working. Although some things with it seem a little different it will just take a little time to get familiar with.

Half Arab Head Study

On the weekend I was at one of the local area schooling shows and as usual I took along my sketchbook and camera.

At the show there was a beautiful chestnut Half Arab that I kept seeing and whenever I had the chance I worked on this sketch of him.

This original 7" x 10" graphite pencil sketch when matted and shrink wrapped will be available for $40.00.

Blogger Issues

It looks as though many of us will not be able to post on blogger due to some issues with their system. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Forest 1 - A Work in Progress

It was a fairly busy day today with a lot of yard work to do in the gardens and lawn while the weather was nice.

After supper I still wanted to paint today so I worked on this piece that I had started earlier this year (see posting on 17 March 2013).

I changed my mind about the orientation of the piece and changed it from a horizontal into a vertical, which I feel will be much more effective.

I indicated a shoreline with rocks and placed a tree trunk behind one of the rocks to give a basis for how I will proceed with the background.

I changed the original birch into a fallen tree in the water and I will probably remove the rock that is in the foreground as the more I look at it I feel it is distracting.

I was not meant to do much work on this painting as we had unexpected company drop by for a visit.

I will post this painting at a later date once more of it has been completed.

Roses 2 - A Work in Progress

Many of the roses are in bloom in my garden.

I did a quick sketch of a few of them onto watercolour paper and will post this painting at a later date once paint has been applied and more of it is completed.
