Birch Tree and Rail Fence

Along one of the side roads I sometimes travel when going to KAGS there is an old birch tree at the entrance to a field.

Most of the time the farmer has the rail gate open but during the winter the farmer puts up the rails across the opening as soon as the snow stays on the ground to prevent snowmobiles from running through the fields.

When I went by on this day you could see that someone had dropped the rails down and taken at least three snowmobiles around the fields and made a mess of the once pristine blanket of snow. Obviously they had no respect for private property.

Emerald Fields

When I look out the upper hall window I see the upper paddock and the first field behind the barn.

I did this little sketch of the fence line and added leaves to turn it from an autumn sketch into a summer drawing.

Crumpled Paper I and II

Today I wanted to do an old exercise we had to do back in high school to make us see the shades of grey on a white piece of paper.

We took a sheet of white paper and crumpled it up and then placed it on the desk in front of us and with graphite pencil had to give it shape and dimension without putting a dark background behind it to give it an outline.

It was an interesting exercise with only a shadow to ground it and a very slight amount of background shading on one side of the drawing.

Fantasy Car

I haven't done a mechanical drawing in quite a while, much less did pointillism (stippling) in pen and ink in years. Since I had some time to work on a drawing today, I decided to create a sporty looking car.

I am inclined to doubt this design will ever be mass produced and it certainly would not be practical for me to own with all the snow we get here and the rough country roads; but it was fun to play.

Paradise I

This is another sketch I did while relaxing on the beach in Cuba of a beach house in among the palm trees. The boat dock had been pretty much torn apart by one of the hurricanes that had gone through the island, leaving only some of the posts to mark where the dock had been.











I could get used to living in the Caribbean. The last time we were in Aruba we had looked at property on the east shore of the island.

Sand Dune I

I enjoy going into the Caribbean, everyone is on "island time" and life there is so much more relaxed.

When Ron and I are there we often walk for miles along the white sand beaches and this is a scene we came across while in Cuba.













I look forward to going back to the islands sometime in the New Year depending on Ron's schedule.

Bufflehead Duck

Today I had the opportunity to work from a stuffed mount that one of the wood carvers loaned to a friend. Needless to say I wasn't going to pass up the chance at being close to a Bufflehead Duck.
