Coral Reef I - A Work in Progress

Today was the first day of the Kawartha Arts Festival and we are going to have a hot, humid day with temperatures reaching 81F (27C) and the humidity making it feel like 90F (32C).

Fortunately there was a nice breeze blowing which made the weather more bearable and it helped to bring out a steady stream of people to visit the show.

I worked on a number of pieces today including this one of a coral reef in Roatan that I had started last year (see post on 16 March 2013).

I added more coral to both sides of the rock face on Newman's Wall and put in a few more details to define the coral.

I will post this painting at a later date once I decide what kinds of fish and where I am going to place them in this painting.

I look forward to seeing some of you tomorrow for the last day of the show.

Koi Pond - A Work in Progress

Today I was doing the morning shift at Art on Kent and took in my paintings for the next show Reaping and Gathering.

While sitting the Gallery I worked on the placement of the koi on my painting Koi Pond (see post on 21 May 2014).

I printed off a copy of the painting and drew out a number of koi in various sizes and positions on a piece of tracing paper and then cut out each fish and moved them around on the painting.

I may do a couple more of these changing the direction of the painting and changing the koi to see which one looks the best.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and enjoy the artwork. I hope you will return often.

First Love - A Work in Progress

It is another nice, sunny, hot 74F (23.3C) and humid 85F (29.4C) day; so I decided that I would do some work on a couple of quick sketches that I did earlier this month.

I was at the Peterborough Exhibition enjoying some of the horse show in the morning, before I had to go to Buckhorn and sit at the art show in the afternoon.

While walking through the infield among the trailers I came across and endearing scene of a young child hugging her pony in between getting him ready for the show.

I did a quick sketch and took a couple of reference photographs before the moment was lost.

I will post this sketch at a later date once I have completed the outline drawing.

Countryside Art Group

Today is going to be another hot humid and hazy day with the temperature going up to 86F (30C) and feeling more like 102F (39C) with thunderstorms being very likely.

While I was at KAGS for a little while in the afternoon I had a man come in from Transition Towns Peterborough and wanted to have an art group exhibit at the 4th Annual Purple Onion Festival held at Millennium Park, in Peterborough, Ontario.

After discussing the show with a number of artists, only three other artists wanted to exhibit with me at the Festival. Our small group became Countryside Art Group and it consists of Cindy Allan, Diane Collins, Norma MacEachern and Susan Sydney.

Water Lilies - A Work in Progress

After a cooler summer than normal, we are once again getting more of seasonal temperatures with today being 79F (26C) and with the humidity feeling more like 90F (32C). Small wonder I had the air conditioner on both ways for the trip to Toronto and back.

Although waiting for my daughter to see a specialist with a 2:30pm appointment and finally seeing him four hours later is a bit ridiculous, but fortunately the traffic was fairly light.

When I finally returned home I wanted to at least get a painting started. I sketched out a water lily and then applied liquid frisket to the edges so I could paint in the background.

I will post this painting once the background has been completed.

Barn Swallows - A Work in Progress

It is another bright and sunny summer day with the temperature reaching 77F (25C) but the humidity making it feel like 86F (30C).

I was taking a break after I had finished mowing the lawn and I sat by the barn gate watching the barn swallows. There were three of them that were flitting back and forth, landing on the old barn light post, taking a turn around the barn yard and then coming back to rest.

I did this quick sketch of them and will post this drawing again once I have tightened up some of the details on the outline sketch.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my artwork and I hope you will return often.
