Balance Beam 1 and 2

These are the first two in a series of original 15" x 20” framed Prisma pencil paintings I am doing on balance beam routines.

Balance Beam 1

In the early years of balance beam competition the beam surface was plain polished wood which was much more slippery than the suede or leather covered beams that have been in use since the 1980’s.

Prior to the 1970’s beam routines were based more in dance movements and poses than in tumbling routines.

Most of the routines performed at the higher levels were composed with combinations of walkovers, rolls, handstands, poses and leaps.

Aerials were unheard of, considering the most difficult skill performed was a back handspring.

Balance Beam 2

Congratulations to returning collector Champions Gymnastics of Peterborough, Ontario on their purchase of these two paintings.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and enjoy the artwork. I hope you will return often.

Emil Varga Workshop - Orchids, Irises and Chrysanthemums

Today the Buckhorn Tuesday Painters have Emil VARGA returning this time to do a workshop with us on painting flowers.

He brought in a drawing of an Iris and another of a Bird of Paradise with the flowers masked out. Emil demonstrated various ways of doing backgrounds behind the flowers and how to create interest.

Irises

The rest of the morning we worked on our own paintings, either putting in a background, finishing something we had started or starting something new.

I completed two abstract floral; the first one reminds me of my blue Irises and the second resembles some of my Orchids. Both are original 7" x 10” framed watercolours.

Orchids

Thank you to Ling and Olsen Choi of Bethany, Ontario on their selection of both paintings to add to their art collection.

After lunch Emil brought out a partially finished painting of tulips which had the background already completed and showed us how he built up layers of colour to shape the flowers and how he worked from one flower to the other.

It was a very productive, interesting and enjoyable class. My last painting of the day reminds me of Chrysanthemums.

Chrysanthemums

This is an original 6-3/4" x 10” framed watercolour available for $165.00.

Autumn Leaves

This original 9" x 13-1/2” framed watercolour is the result of being out riding last year after hunting season had closed.

It was in the late afternoon and as we entered into the bottom field we surprised a buck that had just come out from the maple bush.

He stood a few moments watching us, not quite sure what kind of animal we were, but when the dog caught up to us he quickly disappeared back into the trees.

Thank you to returning collector Mme. Cecile Desrochers of Ste-Ramon, Quebec on her purchase of this painting.
