Captured

Captured is an original 3" x 5” framed watercolour.

This is another painting of an autumn Maple leaf caught among weeds (for Trapped see my posting on 19 April 11), this time in Goldenrod.

Autumn Leaves

This original 9" x 13-1/2” framed watercolour is the result of being out riding last year after hunting season had closed.

It was in the late afternoon and as we entered into the bottom field we surprised a buck that had just come out from the maple bush.

He stood a few moments watching us, not quite sure what kind of animal we were, but when the dog caught up to us he quickly disappeared back into the trees.

The Dragon

Every so often I still work with carving pictures in leather and painting or staining them.

The Dragon is an 18" x 18” carved leather painting.

Quarter Horse - Boomer's Ace

This is a painting I started on earlier this month using conte pencil on a 9" x 12" pastel paper block.

OSWOA - Solitary Tree 1-2

Late autumn, winter and early spring are the best times to study trees. This is when they are little more than sketetons and you can clearly see the structure which is hidden beneath the leaves during the late spring, summer and early autumn.

The first tree is an old maple in late autumn when all the leaves to the ground.

The second is of a young maple with some of the leaves clinging valiantly to the branches.

ACEO - Against the Clouds 1-3

Today I wanted to do something a little different with my paintings than I normally do.

Instead of washing in a sky and clouds, I decided that I would put in the cloud shapes and build up layers of them.

Once the clouds were dry I painted the sky in behind them.

With the harder more solid edges on the clouds it seems to have almost a Group of Seven feel about it.

To complete the paintings I added trees into the foreground to have them stand out from the background clouds and sky. I kind of like the way it looks.

Trapped

Trapped is an original 3" x 5” framed watercolour.

This is the first in a series of autumn Maple leaves captured by weeds before they finally make their way to their final resting place on the ground.

I found this leaf trapped in among a section of Scotch Thistles along the fence line.
