Pinto News Illustration April 1981

While sorting through some files I came across a copy of the Pinto News for April 1981, which features on the cover the logo I designed for them (see post on 24 November 2015).

This horse is of my second horse "CoCo" who had three different brands on her. All of them were on her left side.

The first was an N on her cheek and no hair covered it at all just the dark coloured flesh.

The second was a backwards E and a normal N on her shoulder.

The last one on her flank was a double LL over a lazy L below it, which was like the first one with no hair over it, just the dark coloured flesh showing.

I felt bad that she went through so much pain, as she was the kindest, gentlest and most caring of all the horses I have owned over the years.

Pinto News Illustration November 1980

Today, I was going through a box of old magazines and I came across a copy of the November 1980 Pinto News which featured the logo I designed for them (see post on 24 November 2015) on the cover.

As I went through the News letter I came across the names of people that I had competed against.

I exhibited my first horse Tom (Freedom's Mr. Thomas) in Halter, Driving, English and Western Pleasure, Conformation Hunter Under Saddle and Over Fences, Reining, Trail, Barrel Race, Pole Bending, Flag Race and Costume classes.

I was surprised to come across a drawing of my other horse Freedom's Lady Anne that I would exhibit in Reining and Western Riding, while Ron would show her in Halter, Trail, Barrel Racing and Flag Race.

Writings 2000 Book Cover

It was another busy day at the Kawartha Artists' Gallery and Studio as the last few artists came in to hang their paintings in the show.

The gallery looks wonderful with all the poinsettias, ribbons, tinsel, twinkle lights and a handmade creche set up.

It reminded me of the Christmas book launch we had when I took my first credit course at Sir Sandford Fleming College in Creative Writing. At that time we were still allowed to have "Christmas" in the schools and we did not have to be politically correct lest we offend anyone.

Each of the students was allowed to submit one piece of writing that they had been created during the 10 week course.

I was given the task to compile all of the submitted pieces, design a book cover with the book's title, create a table of contents put in the masthead into the front of the book and get everything print ready to take it to the print shop at Fleming and have the copies made in time for the book launch.

This is the cover I designed for the book.

If you have a chance the opening reception is tomorrow from 1-4pm. You are more than welcome to come out, join us in the festivities and enjoy the art work. I hope to see many of you there.
