Boxes and Drapery - A Work in Progress

Last month at KAGS we had a very interesting display for the Still Life class where the theme was Scarves, Jewellery and Trinket Boxes.

It was a difficult choice to make as there were so many things that would make beautiful still life paintings.

I found the shadows and folds on the drapery very appealing and because of this decided to work on the one section of the display that had three different sized trinket boxes, a bracelet a couple of necklaces and a pair of earrings.

Each of the trinket boxes was set at a different angle and I will have to work on the perspective to get them correct.

But the most important feature for me will be the shadows and folds on the drapery which I am looking forward to painting.

I will post this piece at a later date once I have completed the drawing.

Thank you for looking at my artwork.

OSWOA - Sewing Machine

I know it is supposed to be spring but when the day starts off at 22F (-5.6C) with blowing snow and the wind making it feel like 10F (-12.2C) and our high for the day is 32F (0C) and the continuing wind and snow making it feel like 20F (-6.7C). I certainly don't feel like working in my garden.

Today at KAGS our theme for the Still Life class was Sewing, Embroidery and Needlework.

Fortunately for me the old Singer sewing machine was one of the pieces in the display and I was able to get more details on a painting I had started a couple of years ago (see posts on 19 January 2012 and 24 July 2013) and I will finally be able to get it completed.

I also did a number of sketches of other parts of the display and I will post those at a later date.

If you would like more information about OSWOA please go to my post on 12 March 2010.

The OSWOA shown here is an original watercolour painting using Artist quality Winsor & Newton paint on 140lb. Arches 100% rag, acid free watercolour paper. It is priced at $80.00 and sold unframed.

Sewing Machine - A Work in Progress

I was going through some still life paintings and I came across this one that I had started early last year (see post on 19 January 2012).

I wanted to do a little more work on it and get a couple more parts on it completed.

After looking over it I decided that the bolt of material behind the sewing machine was a little too plain and drab being in shades of grey.

To give it a little more life I washed over the material with pure Antwerp blue.

Next I worked on the shirt on the sewing machine using various mixes of Cadmium red, Cadmium yellow and alizarin crimson.

I started working on the sewing machine and started with the face place and worked from the front to the back of the machine adding details as I went across.

Moving on to the table I drew in the legs and started on the edge before running out of time.

I will post this painting again at a later date once more work on it has been completed.
