Presqu'ile Provincial Park

Today I took a number of my paintings to Presqu'ile Provincial Park, located at 328 Presqu’ile Parkway, in Brighton, Ontario to be juried into their 28th Annual Christmas at Presqu'ile Quality Arts and Craft Show, which will be held on 02, 03, 06, 09 and 10 November 2019 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.















I left myself an extra two hours of travelling time so I wouldn't be late for my 1:20p.m. appointment time.















As it ended up it was a good thing I did, as there were three different roads that were under construction. Two of the roads were being paved which involved waits because only one lane was open. On the third one they were putting in a new culvert and again only one lane was available.















Finally, I arrived at Presqu'ile Provincial Park and stopped at the gatehouse to get a map to find Stonehedge Cottage , which was located at the far end of the Park and the speed limit on the roads were 25mph (40kmph).















Once I arrived at the Cottage with 10 minutes to spare, I took my paintings into the display room and set them up and went to the waiting area while five adjudicators looked at my art work.















I was pleased when I was called back into the room to learn that I had passed the jury and that they wanted my painting Frozen Barns (see post on 02 February 2010) painting, which usually hangs in my living room to be displayed at the show to be hung over the fireplace in the main display area. I look forward to exhibiting at this new show in November.

Northey's Barn Boutique Art Show

Yesterday morning, I put the finishing touches to setting up my small table with the paintings on easels in my display space which is as usual, is located just inside the main barn doors.















Our show is held at Northey's Barn Boutique, 1981 13th Line, Selwyn, Ontario from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. 01-02 June 2019.















For our opening day, it was bright and sunny which brought many people out to see our exhibit and a number of pieces sold.















Today is just the same, although here are a few lulls and in between times without many people I was able to go outside and take photographs of Richard's collection of International Harvester Tractors, some of which are fairly old and have been beautifully restored.















As I did yesterday, when the kittens came out to scamper around the barn I took a number of photographs of then and in the future hope to do a series of paintings with the kittens and pieces of old farm equipment.















We were all pleased with the turnout for this show and look forward to returning again next year.

Setting up Northey's Barn Boutique Art Show

Today I went over to JoAnne Connell Northey's farm to set up the art show in her barn as some members of the Buckhorn Artists" Group did last year.

The peg board panels were already set up for me in the same space that I had last year, which I had requested.

First I brought all my paintings into the barn and as I unwrapped them I set them around the walls to be able too see them and decide where I would put them on the panels.

I started with the middle panel and placed the largest painting at the top in the centre.

This was followed by putting up my name sign on the left panel and hanging the second largest painting.

On the right panel I put three quarter sheet paintings near the top and staggered them a little bit.

I went back to the centre panel and thought I would add another barn painting, this was followed by a couple of pen and ink drawings diagonally across from each other and the last piece was another watercolour.

Next I sorted out the remaining paintings.

I set a number of paintings that had yellow, orange or red in them by the left panel.

Since the right panel already had an animal at the top I added the photographs of the pig, the cat and the pencil drawing of the horse.

I finished this panel by adding a still life and abstract painting to the bottom on the left side.

On the last panel I ran the three rubber ducks down through the centre of the panel below the boat.

Lastly, I put two paintings on each side of the rubber ducks and I will set up the tables and the small paintings up in the morning.

Blue Skies 1 and Grey Skies 1 - Two Works in Progress

We started the day with a foggy morning which gradually cleared to give us a beautiful blue sky.

But that was not to last, by the afternoon it changed to a grey sky, which progressed into a thunderstorm.

I thought I would paint the changing skies so I started with the blue sky.

I wet the paper and dropped Antwerp blue into the top of the sky and lightened with water toward the bottom.

I then set this one aside to dry.

For the second painting which was the grey sky before the rain started falling.

I wet the paper and using a mix of French ultramarine blue and burnt sienna I brushed in the cloudy sky leaving some areas of white showing.

I wanted to put a bird in the sky, but I put it in when the paper was too wet and it bled.

I will post both of these paintings at a later date once I decide which scene at the farm I want to put in the foreground.
