Last Day of Unfolding Show

Today I am sitting the last day of the Unfolding Show at KAGS. The show was well attended with a number of paintings sold.

While at the Gallery I worked on this painting of a seagull taking off from a rock on the shore of a lake. I was still remembering the seagulls taking flight from yesterday. I changed the time of day to the afternoon using French ultramarine blue for the sky and added a little burnt sienna for the rocks.

Lazy Days is an original 4-1/2" x 9-1/4" framed, watercolour is available for $225.00.

Morning Flight

I was up early this morning and went for a walk along the lake. The sunrise had turned the sky shades of pink and blue.

During the course of my walk I spooked a number of seagulls that had been resting on one of the docks. I watched them as they took flight and noticed how the white of their under bodies stood out against the morning sky.

When I returned home I thought it fitting to do try and capture what I could remember of their morning flight.

This original 4-1/2" x 9-1/4" framed, watercolour is available for $225.00. SOLD

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and enjoy the artwork. I hope you will return often.

Red Hot Pokers

I was sitting the Figuratively Speaking Show at KAGS today and while at the front desk I was working on a number of small floral paintings.

This one is of Kniphofia 'Shenandoah'  also called Tritoma, Red hot poker, Torch lily or Poker plant and is from a family of plants that includes over 70 species native to Africa.

These tall, dramatic plants produce thick, leafless stems topped with spikes of upright, tubular flowers that are set among sword shape leaves. The brilliantly colored flowers are red on top changing through orange to yellow at bottom; which is why they are given names such as "torch" and "red hot poker".

The flowers when they appear in early summer produce nectar which will attract hummingbirds and butterflies into the garden.

This original 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" framed watercolour is available for $125.00.

Moonlit Waves

This is one of three paintings I started a while ago (see posting on 23 Jan 2011).

I added in the sky with a darker mixture of French ultramarine blue and burnt sienna. The foreground was then brushed in with a slightly lighter mixture of the sky colour as wet beach sand.

This 4" x 10-1/4" original watercolour painting when framed will be available for $125.00.

Autumn Maple

I pulled out a number of paintings that I had started a while ago (see posting on 16 January 2011) and decided that I would work on this one.

I painted in the main trunk of the tree first with mixtures of browns and greys and set it aside to dry.

Then I wet the area where I wanted to place the rest of the autumn leaves and using a sponge and various mixtures of new gamboge, aureolin, alizarin crimson, cadmium red and cadmium yellow added the colour.

This original 10" x 11" watercolour painting when framed will be available for $245.00.

Technicolour

This is a head study of a Pinto Thoroughbred cross mare called Technicolour that I used to compete against many years ago in English classes and I exhibited her on a number of occasions in both Line and Conformation Hunter over Fences classes when I used to show Tom.

I remember at one show that I ended up riding five of the nine entries in the Conformation Hunter over Fences class and four of them placed in the ribbons.

This framed original 8" x 10" graphite pencil drawing is available for $85.00. SOLD

Serene Place I

This is a little sketch I did out on the point near my friend Heather's home.

It is of one of the small islands in Chemong Lake and the shore behind it is known for the bass lurking in its waters.

This original 4" x 6" framed pen and ink drawing is available for $125.00. SOLD
