Front Field I

Today is the last day of the Kawartha Art Festival held at the Fenelon Fair Grounds.

I arrived at the show a little bit earlier to change some of my paintings around to fill in the space left by the painting that was sold yesterday.

The weather is a little different than yesterday with it starting off with rain, which is to clear around noon, but the temperature is going to be just a little warmer at 72F (22C).

The rain didn't stop the crowds from coming out.

For most of the morning I did little bits on a number of drawings, but couldn't settle down and get into working on one of them.

It wasn't until after I had lunch that I decided to work on this piece that I had started earlier this year (see post on 18 June 2017) while Ron and I were out in the fields at the farm using my new toy.

I started by putting in the clouds and then proceeded to work on the trees along the fence line, finishing with the foreground.

This original 9" x 12" pen and ink drawing when matted and shrink wrapped will be available for $75.00.

I would like to thank new collector Mrs. Christine Martin of Peterborough, Ontario on her selection of A Spring Bouquet (see post on 20 September 2011).

Thank you for coming to look at my artwork and I hope you will return often.

28th Annual Kawartha Arts Festival

Yesterday my daughter, Christine came with me to help set up my show the Kawartha Arts Festival in Fenelon Falls, Ontario.

Since I am still not able to lift the grids, carry the tables or the boxes of paintings, much less climb up and down a ladder all of which are necessary to set up my display; and I really appreciated all her help.

Once everything was brought in the first thing set up was the table, which I was able to cover with the table cloth while Christine assembled the grids.

She put them up on the table and I held them steady while she joined the center panels together.

As I unwrapped the various paintings Christine set them out where she thought they should be placed.

And for the most part she was right, so I let her do the hanging.

I helped her with the ones going up on the wall and when she had problems with the hooks on the grids.

In between times I put the shrink wraps into the rack on the table, put the empty boxes under the table and set up my chair where it would be for the duration of the show.

When I arrived today all I had left to do was put out the brochures and other information on the table and set myself up to work on paintings.

The weather for the show couldn't have been better 70F (21C) bright and sunny with a mild breeze.

From the opening of the show we had a steady stream of people coming through the building to view the various exhibits and speak with the artists.

As I put away my sketches at the end of the day, I realized that I had worked a little on each of four different drawings which I will post at a later date once each of them are completed.

I am already looking forward to returning tomorrow for the last day of the exhibit.

I would like to thank new collector Ms. Signy Franklin, of Toronto, Ontario on her purchase of Rising Mist (see post on 19 March 2010).

Coon Lake X - A Work in Progress

Today went to the Peterborough Riverview Park and Zoo, to paint with the KAGS Outdoor Painters' Group.

I wandered around on the lower level of the Park but with all the children running around and the noise I couldn't settle down to sketch.

The arched wood bridge that went across the river to the small island had been changed for a metal one that didn't have the same character.

I ended up going home after lunch.

Once at home I pulled out this drawing and did a little more work on the rocks and shadows on the rocks and some of the background.

I will post this drawing at a later date once more work on the rocks and tree trunks.

Thank you for looking at my artwork.

Clear Lake IX - A Work in Progress

Today I wanted  to do a little more work on this drawing that I started  a while ago (see posts on 09 June 2013, 27 May and 18 July 2017) while canoeing on Clear Lake.

I started by putting in the birch trees on the right side island

Next I put in the leaves on the first maple tree to the left and behind the birch trees.

I added the trunk and a few branches to the first maple tree before starting on the leaves of the next maple.

It was at this point that my friends arrived and I had to set it aside.

I will post this drawing at a later date once I have completed the background trees.
