Massey Ferguson 1 - A Work in Progress

Today I went to Joanne Carlen's farm in Hastings, Ontario with the Outdoor Painters' Group. It is the first time in quite a while that I was able to go out on location and paint with them.

I took many photographs while I was there of things I would like to paint, but knew I didn't have enough time to do all of them.

I finally decided to do a painting of their Massey Ferguson tractor and in the not too distant future I will also do a painting to match it of our Allis Chalmers.

I had brought along some pieces that I had already started a few years ago (see post on 07 July 2012) with just the sky painted. I used the one called Blue Sky C and its name is now changed to Massey Ferguson 1.

I lightly sketched in the main parts of the tractor and with bright red put in the under paint for the red on the tractor.

With a mix of French ultramarine blue and burnt sienna I put in the tires and some of the dark parts of the tractor motor.

With a light wash of burnt sienna with a touch of the dark mix added, I dry brushed in the areas on tractor motor that had discolouration from oil stains.

I will post this painting at a later date once I have completed the tractor and added the background.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and look at the artwork. I hope you will return often.

Harness Horse I-III - Three Works in Progress

These are some of the sketches I did last month while at Brooklin Spring Fair.

Harness Horse I

It was an enjoyable day and in the not too distant future I would like to do more work on each of these sketches.

Harness Horse II

I haven't decided whether I will use all three of the horses in one painting or do them as individual pieces.

Harness Horse III

I will post each of these drawings at a later date as more work on them is completed.

Swamp 2 - A Work in Progress

It is another humid day with the temperature reaching 81F (27.2C) and with the humidity making it feel like 94F (34.4C) and quite likely we will have a thunderstorm this afternoon.

I decided to go for a drive up Highway 507 (Buckhorn Road) just past Flynn's Corners where there is a large variety of wetlands.

This time of the year the swamp and marshland on either side of the highway is just beautiful, with the sunlight reflected back into the water turning it to blue and all the different shades of green from the aquatic plant life and the pearl grey dead cedar trees scattered about the swamp.

I will post this piece at a later date once I have developed the sketch and transferred it onto watercolour paper or canvas.

Pothos Sketch - A Work in Progress

Today is even hotter than yesterday, reaching 82F (27.8C) and with the humidity feeling like 94F (34.4C).

It looks as though summer has finally arrived.

That being said, what I found interesting was while I was on my way home from running errands I noticed that the swamp maples along the road were already changing to their bright red autumn colours. Hopefully it isn't a sign of an early winter arriving.

I wanted to do a sketch of the Pothos plant that I received as a gift from my friend Heather a number of years ago.

I have the rough outline sketch blocked in and I will post this piece at a later date once the outline sketch is completed and I have transferred it onto watercolour paper.

Day Lilies - A Work in Progress

My day lilies are blooming and this morning while sitting outside on the front lawn with a cup of tea I started working on this sketch of the lilies in my rock garden up by the house.

They are always a welcome sign of summer with the large, lovely orange blooms surrounded by green foliage.

I will post this sketch at a later date once it has been completed.

Thank you for coming to look at my artwork and I hope you will return often.
