Hazy Day 1 - A Work in Progress

I pulled out this painting that I had started last year (see post on 07 July 2012) that was originally called Blue Sky B.

It didn't take long to draw in the distant hills and add some trees to the skyline.

Next I placed a few tree trunks into the foreground with the bushes already indicated at their base.

I will post this painting at a later date once I decide how I wish to complete this painting.

Cloudy Sky - A Work in Progress

This is another of the sky paintings I started in a workshop with Neil Broadfoot last month.

There is still a lot more work to be done to the clouds as I am not happy with the way they look and I still have to decide what I am going to put into the foreground.

I will post this painting at a later date once more work on it has been completed.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and look at the artwork.

Mystical - A Work in Progress

This is another painting I started in the Gary Chapman workshop earlier this month.

This is using a limited palette of Antwerp blue, burnt sienna and permanent rose. The one side of the painting is almost completed. I have to decide how I will finish the other side.

I will post it at a later date.

Thank you for looking at my artwork.

Country Sunset - A Work in Progress

Last month I started a four day workshop with Neil Broadfoot as the instructor. This is one of the paintings I started in his class.

This painting was done in a similar manner and using the same colours as a couple of paintings I did with him and a small group of artists that meet on Monday mornings at KAGS (see postings on 04 and 08 February 2013).

Aureolin was used as the base colour of the sky and a pale wash was put into some areas of the snow leaving other sections of the snow the white of the paper.

Alizarin crimson was then brushed into areas of the wet aureolin paint creating the orange tones so often seen in sunsets. Towards the top of the painting a more alizarin crimson wash brushed into the sky.

Antwerp blue was then brushed into the top of the sky and over some areas of the alizarin crimson and it was set aside to dry while I decide what I would like to do with the foreground.

I will post this painting at a later date once it has been completed.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and look at the artwork. I hope you will return often.

Last day of the Among Friends Art Show

It was a hot and humid day with the threat of thunderstorms in the air, which had many of the cottagers heading home earlier than usual.

Needless to say there were only a few people visiting the show today.

I worked on these two paintings (see postings on 16 October 2012 and 09 February 2013) today.

Dockside 1

First I painted in the distant shore line in soft greens.

Next I painted in the water using mixtures of Antwerp blue, French ultramarine blue and burnt sienna.

Small items were sold by Diane Collins.

The hours for our show are:
20 May 13 - 10:00am - 5:00pm

Dockside 2

I look forward to seeing some of you at our next show being held here at St. Matthews Church in August.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my artwork and I hope you will return often.

Galloping Pair - A Work in Progress

Today is the second day of the 25th Annual Among Friends Art Show and it is still hard to believe that we have been exhibiting here at St. Matthews Church for a quarter of a century.

Once again we had a steady stream of people going through the show with five paintings sold by Heather Grant, Penny Little, Barbara McGregor and Bonny Windover. Small items were sold by Diane Collins.

This is a small piece I worked on (see posts on 15 January 2013 and March 2013). I applied two more layers of burnt sienna to the lead horse, next I painted in the dark points with a mixture of French ultramarine blue and burnt sienna.

I will post this painting at again once more work is completed on the second horse.

The hours for our show are:
19 May 13 - 12:30pm - 5:00pm
20 May 13 - 10:00am - 5:00pm

Looking forward to seeing some of you at our show being held this Victoria Day weekend.
