Drawing a Horse and Sleigh - Outline Drawing

Today I was looking through some photographs I had taken at the All About Horses Show in Lindsay earlier in the year of various carriages and sleighs as well as pictures of draft horses.

Working from various photographs I made a rough sketch of a draft horse pulling a sleigh. I put blocked in some of the harness on the horse and set the shafts of the sleigh into the harness loops.

More details were details were added to the sleigh, the people were given a little more shape and the lap robe was given a little more definition.

The shape of the horse was tightened up; reins and blinkers were added on the bridle and sleigh bells were indicated on the harness.

I will post this drawing as more work on it has been completed.

Thank you for coming to look at my artwork and I hope you will return often.

OSWOA - On the Edge Revisited

As I was getting paintings ready to frame I looked at this one and decided it needed something to make it a little more interesting as it seems very plain (see post on 11 April 2010).

I added a few birch trees into the background against the evergreens.

If you would like more information about OSWOA please go to my post on 12 March 2010.

The OSWOA shown here is an original watercolour painting using Artist quality Windsor & Newton paint on 300lb. Arches 100% rag, acid free watercolour paper. It is priced at $40.00 and sold unframed.

ACEO - Tree Tops 7

I have always enjoyed seeing the trees silhouetted against the sky. But then I also like watching the ever changing sky. I am very fortunate to be able to see the sunrise and the sunset every day weather permitting.

If you would like more information about ACEO please go to my post on 11 March 2010.

Evening Forest 3 - A Work in Progress

I decided to do a winter scene for this evening painting.

The sky has been put in with a little of the sky colour washed over the snow in some areas; leaving most of the foreground snow the white of the paper.

The background of the forest has been washed in and some of the tree trunks are indicated, as well as lifting a few light trunks out for birch trees.

The foreground rocks were put in and then scraped to create texture.

A few grasses and growies were put in place among the rocks and others are shown to be poking out of the snow.

I will post this painting at a later date once I have more of it completed.

Thank you for looking at my artwork.

Fenceline 1 - A Work in Progress

Many of the working farms in the area still have either snake fence or page wire fences with cedar posts.

Some of the larger horse farms are putting in the post and rail fences which are beautiful, but require a fair amount of maintenance.

I have put the sky in using cobalt blue and left the white of the paper for the cedar posts with a few of the grain lines running down the length of the posts.

Using various combinations of French ultramarine blue, burnt sienna, raw sienna and cadmium yellow I painted in the grasses of the field in front of the cedar posts.

I used burnt sienna to indicate where the page wire fence will go onto the cedar posts.

This painting will be posted at a later date once it has been completed.
