Winter Evening

Today is a grey, rainy day with the temperature hovering around the freezing mark there is the possibility of snow mixed with the rain.

What better to do than a monochromatic painting using only Payne's grey and white?

Winter Evening is the last of the 4-1/2" x 8” original, framed acrylic paintings available for $65.00. SOLD

Winter Glow

It was bright and sunny this morning but with the temperature being 20F (-6C) I decided a snow scene would be a fitting painting for the day.

I wanted to also paint something bright to give the illusion of a moonlit night with the moon hidden behind the clouds.

Congratulations to V. Wilkes of Lakefield, Ontario on the addition of Winter Glow to his art collection.

Thank you for coming to look at my artwork.

Early Morning

Today is another bright and sunny day even though the temperature in the morning remains cool.

I went to paint today with the Outdoor Painters' Group at KAGS. It was too cool for them to paint outdoors yet, but the list for the places we will be going out to paint at begins on 28 April 11 at Griffin's Greenhouse, 3026 Lakefield Rd. which was a part of the GardenRoute show last year.

Early Morning is an original 4-1/2" x 8” framed acrylic available for $65.00.

Windy Day

Windy Day is another of the 4-1/2" x 8” acrylic paintings that I painted.

Yesterday when Heather and I returned from painting with the Buckhorn Tuesday Painters she gave me some snowdrops to plant in my rock garden.

Although the day is cool and windy the bonus is that the sun is shining and I will got out and plant them today

Congratulations to Mr. Peter Shewchuk of Bethany, Ontario on his purchase of this painting.

Flying Clouds

Today was a bright and sunny but, windy and cool in the morning as Heather and I went to paint with the Buckhorn Tuesday Painters.

With watching the flying clouds race past in the clear blue sky over Buckhorn Lake which you can see from the front window of St, Matthew's Church Hall this was the painting I completed, and I have another started that I will finish tomorrow.

This 4-1/2" x 8” original painting is available for $65.00.

Birches

Since I had been painting in acrylic over the weekend at the Brian Smith workshop I decided that I would continue to paint in acrylic.

Last night I looked for some small acrylic frames that I had in stock. I found six small frames there were all 4-1/2" x 8” in size. I cut mat board to fit the frames and gessoed them on both sides sanding lightly between each layer of gesso.

They went with me to the Creative Art Guild in Lakefield. Birches is the first one I completed.

I would like to thank Mrs. Beryl Harris of Young’s Point, Ontario for adding this painting to her collection.

Congratulations to new collector Ms. Diane Barcley of Peterborough, Ontario on her purchase of Coral Dawn at the Guatemala Mission Fund Raising Auction held at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in Lakefield, Ontario on 09 April 2011.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and look at the artwork. I hope you will return often.

Brian Smith Workshop - Maria

I have had a very enjoyable weekend at KAGS with the Brian Smith workshop on "Colour for the Portrait Painter".

On Saturday the first exercise in the morning was a value study using just black, white and grey in any media. I chose to do mine in Prisma pencil on a 9" x 12" sheet of pastel paper (the completed sketch called Maria is shown here, and is available matted and shrink wrapped for $50.00).

In the afternoon the second exercise was using a monochromatic palette to complete a painting using tints, tones and shades of burnt sienna. The background of the canvas was washed with pure burnt sienna for a mid-range colour.

Brian Smith demonstrated this technique from start to finish and completed the painting in the class.
